Sestak? Sebelius? Sorry, but no.......
This is going to sound stupid and superficial as all Hell, but it's true and we all know it. Especially with a nominee named "Obama", the VP is going to have a name that "average" people can pronounce and spell easily.

Yeah, I know it sounds stupid, but if you don't believe me, ask President Dukakis about that. Or President Tsongas. Or President Kucinich.

Obama himself was able to overcome that, just because of who he is, and now his name is a "successful brand name". It's going to be paired up with something that sounds "normal" (for lack of a better word) Richardson. Clark. Even Feingold would probably work in this case, because it's spelled just like it sounds, and there's the "McCain-Feingold" association which a lot of people have heard of. (Russ seems to remember that a lot more than Gramps does these days).

Bumper-sticker friendly. Cynical prediction, but seriously.... when was the time you saw a ticket with more than 4 syllables with the combined names of the President and VP canididates in either party?

1. I think there's some truth to this. For example, Obama/Sebelius sounds like a character in Harry
Potter or something. I've already said before that I don't like the sound of Obama/Bayh because it can be twisted into Obama? Bye!

3. Tell Dennis Kucinich to go to the courthouse tomorrow and change his name.
Dennis Smith would probably work. :)

5. Nixon/Agnew - 4 syllables. Also, Agnew is spelled like it sounds
Not that difficult of a combo there.

Roosevelt was already a familiar name when FDR ran, thanks to his cousin Teddy, but even so, I think - like Obama - that FDR might have transcended it even if he had an Eastern European name with 8 consonants in a row. But that's FDR, not just anybody.

Also, let's admit it.... the whole damn population has been dumbed down since TV took over, and that's one thing old Franklin never had to worry about. And given his physical condition, that's probably a good thing. Had the 1932 election been televised, we probably would have had global fascism by 1940.

7. Oh well. I guess McCain/Smith will beat Obama/Feingold in the white-bread name department.
:eyes:

Has it occurred to you that the only people who ever make a big deal out of Obama's name are blatant racists, for obvious reasons?

13. Something is really wrong with the entire process.
From media manipulation to widespread electronic fraud, take your pick. But the subject in this thread is very much a factor in it. People voted for Poppy Bush over Michael Dukakis for some reason in 1988, and it certainly wasn't the old criminal bastard's sparkling personality.
