Any ideas for DU to show respect to Elizabeth Edwards in lieu of the news?
Edited on Fri Aug-08-08 02:54 PM by zulchzulu
I know she had frequented DU and maybe still does.

All I can say to her if she is reading this is that she rocks! What her husband did is between her and him and I can't imagine the feelings she has today.

Here's a BIG HUG to you, Elizabeth!

As for fellow DUers, any ideas what we can do to let Elizabeth know we appreciate her at this time?

ON EDIT: I decided to change my avatar to her for a couple days.

2. No. Let this be a private matter. She was already aware of it.
This is no time for this sort of thing. This is about as intensely private as it gets.

She knows we love her here.

3. Our thoughts and prayers for peace are with them...
None of us are perfect. I still respect and admire John Edwards--as disappointed as I am in him for this incident.. And the entire family deserves our best wishes for peace and reconciliation.

8. The best we could do for Elizabeth
is to not gossip and dwell on their family's very personal troubles. She's a strong woman, fighting for life, and enjoying her children. She probably doesn't give a damn about John's idiotic behavior. I just hope DU can refrain from judging her for not divorcing John, bc I'm sure she won't.

This will be the last comment I make on this subject.

Sending good vibes to Elizabeth and her family.

11. I think the best thing would be to not talk about it endlessly.
And to put my money where my mouth is, this is the last post I make on it unless I see something really trollish and nasty that needs to be put down.

18. I don't see how censorship solves anything.
Like it or not (and I definitely don't) it IS news.

21. It is not news
in the context of the 2008 election. And it would not be censorship.

14. Well, fortunately, I doubt she's online at the moment
People are going to talk about it. Elizabeth Edwards' husband acting like an asshole should be a private matter between them. BUT, "John Edwards, former candidate for president" acting like an asshole is a legitimate topic for discussion on DU.

16. I understand all of your opinions. I just want Elizabeth to know she is fantastic...
...and in light of her health situation, any amount of support (even if it means just leaving her alone) is where I want to make an effort.

17. What I always have to say about matter such as this
is that no one has any idea what is going on in someone else's house. Maybe she has been betrayed, maybe it was her idea, maybe it is something else; one really never knows. It is very disappointing, just in terms of his apparent selfishness undermining his ability to lend his talents to help the country, regardless of what their personal situation might be. Of that I have no idea and it is none of my business.

and have no right, nor invitation to butt into their private life.

This may surprise only a couple of people here, but du is not the panacea for all the world's ills, especially in the private marital matters of public figures that we have no personal or private connection with.
