OK.

The primary season was bloody. Whether you were for Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Bill Richardson, Dennis Kucinich, John Edwards, Chris Dodd, Mike Gravel or even Tom Vilsack or Evan Bayh, a lot of water has come under the bridge.

So now we see that the Clintons may not be fully on board. It's the Clintons. The Clintons. The Clintons. Did I mention, it is now all about the Clintons.

Ferchrissakes, whether you like them or not, the mainstream corporate media looking for the old yearnings that they would have the Clintons to pull all kinds of old and new shit are now astoundingly wanting to make the Clintons "an issue" to distract and devise more bullshit to the not-very-interested TV watchers hooked on insipid "reality shows", dancing competitions or other pixel waste.

Look for the usual Beltway Bots to somehow try to link the Clintons to Obama in the grand hope that it somehow appears that the Clintons are still running or that Obama can't possibly succeed without their "magical help".

What will very soon be the worldwide media drumming will be the nationalistic, jingoistic Olympics in a country that owns us and demand the athletes perform in poisonous air conditions. Fuck global warming! Run, you stupid pygmy! Stay tuned! USA! USA! Um....

So the Clintons will provide fodder with the corporate Beltway punditry. That won't interrupt with their Nantucket vacations and Georgetown summer soires where they might have to do some actual journalism. Getting the aides to find out about a possible Hummer Hybrid is more in line for the drive to the Chesapeake for some crab cakes and payback checks.

Let's not even mention the Clintons until AFTER the convention. It's like not talking about the loudmouth family that had caused trouble at the last family wedding.

Radio silent.

(On edit: I commented on the Clintons in another thread and then decided that it might be better to now not even mention them. This is based on Bill Clinton's recent non-endorsement of Obama. Yeah, we have excuses out the ass. Fuck it.)

7. They have no sense of reality at "Anti-Clinton Underground."
They'll make their assumptions and have their hissy-fits and in the end prove once and for all that they know nothing about how politics works.

And of course the Clintons are on board. Both will campaign for and speak for Obama at the convention.

10. DU has absolutely sickened me today. I'm a hardcore Hillary supporter who has come around to the
idea of Obama as the nominee, but all of these Clinton-bashing threads just make my blood boil and make me question if I want any part of this. It just feels like we're all supposed to support and defend Obama for the sake of unity (fine with me), but it's completely acceptable to write the most vile things about the Clintons here (completely NOT fine with me). Again, how does that encourage unity and good feelings? Like I've said before, unity is not a one-way street. You can't expect people to feel good about supporting Obama if it means having to deal with all this Clinton bashing.

33. We should take all this ill will and train it on the real cause of all of this: the media.
Frankly, it's probably more productive to be putting the media's feet to the fire about their constant need to manufacture out of thin air, completely groundless stories. The fact that they manage to cover even one story correctly is a miracle in this day and age of media decrepitude.

I do have to admit that all this talk has brought up all the bad memories of the long slog the primaries were and I did NOT relish the walk down memory lane.

44. I feel the same way.
The day Hillary dropped out, my heart was breaking. But when she said "That is why we must election Barack Obama as our President", my husband and I stood in cheered. I remember coming in here and it was like a rain storm washed away all the filth from the primary. It felt great. I found this bumper sticker that a DU'er made and put it on my car:

I took some time off from DU, got married, bought a new car and spent most of my time in the lounge.

Then I made the mistake and came back in here. Opened the door and the stench was back with the same players creating it.

This is just wrong. DU has become the Freeperville of the left.

I went off yesterday posting fake stories about the Clintons that were not much different from the rants being posted. I got my first mod warning and I'm fucking proud of it.

I really thought once the primary ended and Hillary threw her support to Obama that would be the end of crap. But I was wrong.

Really sucks. Because I thought there might be some hope for DU to return to the place it once was. But that's not going to happen.

And you're so right, it's really hard to feel good about supporing Obama when you have to deal with this shit. But thank god the world outside of DU isn't like that. So when I listen to Barack speak I have to keep telling myself he does not reflect the views of the vile creatures in here that "defend" him.

31. Unfortunately, Clinton voters *ARE NOT* "on board".
Edited on Thu Aug-07-08 01:03 PM by Tesha
I was out canvassing this weekend (Nashua, NH) for
the combined Democratic campaign (right now, candidates
for President, Senator, and a State Senate seat) and
with my co-canvasser, knocked on probably 50-75 doors
across the space of about three hours. These doors were
allegedly "Democratic" or "Uncommitted" doors (so no
Republicans and no Libertarians).

We probably had about 15 people answer the door and
at least 3 of those people were Clinton supporters
who, *AS OF NOW*, had no intention of supporting
Obama. They are not letting go; it was going to
be their way or the highway.

I don't know what this bodes for November; I certainly
hope they're still just "venting" (though one wonders
just how much more hot air they need to vent before
they get with the program), but I honestly won't be
surprised if these voters never get over the fact
that their candidate lost the primary. It's going to
be a rough ninety days.

Tesha

P.S.: And before any accuses me of being an Obamanut
or something, you need to know that *SEVERAL* of my
successive candidates lost the primaries too. Obama
was my second-to-last choice, but I'm "fully on board".

The hate evidenced here on a daily basis against people who do not deserve it, is not doing anything to want people who did not support him from the beginning to want to move a finger during this election other than to drag our butts to the voting booth in November.

24. Alright, sister...
Maybe my point was skewered.

I think the Clintons would like Obama to be President for the most part. It's just got to be incredibly disappointing.

As for the Clintons and me and using the word "hate" against them, that is silly. That appears to be a kneejerk reaction of people who are confounded that others didn't want Hillary Clinton as the nominee.

This election is EXTREMELY important. If people are too uninformed or sore sports about the primary results to actually not vote, then there is a problem with them as possibly being true Democrats.

If people don't see a difference between Obama and McCain, then they obviously should not vote at all.

25. For the sake of unity, stop bashing the Clintons. They're too important to the party.
It really does not look good for the Clinton-haters here to continually bash the last two-term Democratic president and his wife, the US senator who nearly won the presidential nomination this year.

If you don't particularly like something they do that's in the news, then I don't see anything wrong with saying that -- but for DU's sake and for our party's sake, try saying it politely and rationally. There is such incredible venom in so many of the posts about the Clintons. Freeper-style virulence and irrationality and name-calling. That would never be allowed in posts about Obama, and it has no place in posts about the Clintons.

And if you can't handle even seeing them discussed here, then that's a VERY strong clue that your response to them isn't rational. Because they'd been an important part of American politics for many years, and that isn't going to change any time soon.

Don't like the Clintons? Too bad. They are still the most influential couple in the Democratic party and he's the only twice elected Democratic president in more than 50 years.

Do I or other Clinton supporters demand that Obama and his supporters love the Clintons? No, we don't. We just want them to be treated with respect in a DEMOCRATIC board.

Otherwise, might as well hang out at the RW sites, at least they have the excuse of not being Democrats.

51. Well since two Clintons ARE speaking
at the convention, I don't really see why we can't talk about them until after. The Obama campaign decided to invite both of them to speak so obviously the campaign sees no issue with them or they wouldn't have invited them.

We can still be united and talk about the Clintons in the same breath. I mean, the Clintons are probably two of the biggest Democrats on the planet whether we like them or not.

The Clinton-haters and the Clinton supporters who can't "get over it" are equally as guilty as causing issue.

Some here can still discuss the Clintons in respect to this campaign without being nasty. There is no reason to censor them.

Most of DU would rather that I not discuss Obama, either, lol.

And I don't have much to say about him these days. I drop in once a day to read what's on the front page, and make a comment if I feel like it.

I'll probably still respond to comments about the Clintons, if I feel like sharing. Just as I'll still respond to some comments about Obama, if I feel like sharing.

I'm interested in the upcoming convention, so that might be a source of conversation, with or without the Clintons. I have to pay attention to the GE, even though I'm not much interested in it, so I'll probably still drop in to read the drama, even if I don't have much to say.

I'll try not to let the drama provoke me into responding.
