McCain: Because he served on a nuclear aircraft over a 1/4 of a century ago, we should

build nuclear power plants because he knows they are safe. Has anyone clued him in that there is a real problem with nuclear waste disposal and other safety issues? Plus, why would we want more of that stuff around when a terrorist group could try to get their hands on it to build a nuclear bomb?

So let's go on a nuclear power plant building frenzy. Then when we have even more dangerous waste on hand with no where to safely store it will politicians like McCain say "How could we have foreseen this problem."

Only an idiot would encourage the building of nuclear power plants when other alternatives are available.

No wonder he graduated at the bottom of his class.

McCain: Because corporate lobbyists need another idiot in the Whitehouse.

1. I Thought He Was A Pilot
His father was a commander aboard the sub USS Gunnel 1943..............

His grandfather was VADM 3rd Fleet under Admiral Halsey

2. The only alternative that is actually economically viable at the moment is coal.
Coal is the worst of all possible solutions.

6. Well, it seems like they are making great strides with solar and wind.
One guy has even developed a new type of "windmill" that can be placed on top of buildings. And the new stuff with solar is fascinating.

I watched a program last weekend (forget the channel) but there is A LOT of great stuff out there.

McCain believes in what we CAN'T DO, Obama believes in what we CAN.

12. They are indeed continuing to make great strides.
Hopefully we'll be able to start implementing large-scale renewable, zero-emissions power by 2020. That does leave us with a bit of an energy problem until then, though. Nuclear power has obvious safety issues, but coal power is extraordinarily dirty. Hell, coal power releases more background radiation than nuclear does, to say nothing of its effects on air quality and global climate change.

3. His over-simplification of complex issues is maddening.
Of course, this is how Bush is, so McCain is simply following the playbook.

He's the big, tough Daddy; he knows best.

4. B/c he served on a nuclear sub over a 1/4 of a century ago,
Since when was McCain on a pigboat? He no more served on a sub than he was a fighter pilot.

10. I just saw a sound-bite on CNN and I believe that's the reference he made.
I'll have to try to catch the repeat. I definitely heard navy and nuclear so I figured it was a nuclear sub he was referring to (maybe not).

5. The sad fact is that the nuclear power industry is a byproduct of the
nuclear bomb industry. The one completely subsidized the other.

7. McSame was stationed on a nuke aircraft carrier
but would not have been let anywhere near the reactor compartment. Naval aviators did not go below decks to the propulsion areas. Period. With his attitude we would have kicked him off the pigboats.

in fact he was a nuclear scientist, not some hack Admiral's son at the bottom of the class. Nobody wanted to listen to him, though did they?

he was one of Admiral Rickover's staff. Anybody could be a nuclear engineer. Only a raving genius with a steel backbone and hide of leather could survive Admiral Rickover. Rickover's office drove US Naval nuclear power development for decades. When it comes to nuclear power, there are no better and more informed opinions in politics than JCs.

16. McCrotchety knows more than he lets on....that's why he won't let nuclear waste travel thru AZ!
He is absolutely against letting nuclear waste travel thru AZ on it's way to Yucca Mtn, why, John?

If nuclear waste technology is so "safe", and you are such a nuclear energy proponent, why on earth would you have a problem with trucking it through your neighborhood???????

Why not John???

And why the hell does some reporter not call him on this???

I doubt he stationed on a nuclear carrier. The only one the US Navy had at that time was USS Enterprise (CVN-65), which commissioned in 1961. He was captured in 1967 while on the non-nuclear USS Oriskany, after transferring from USS Forrestal.

He may have done training or touch-and-goes on Enterprise, but there's no evidence he was stationed on it for anything otherwise.

On edit - Wikipedia shows his squadron was stationed on Enterprise during the Cuban Missile Crisis

So looks like he was after all.
