Hillary Clinton asks not to be nominated at Democratic National Convention

Petitions abound, but Hillary Clinton won't put in for a nomination, insiders say.

Hillary Clinton has decided against being nominated for President at the Democrats' Denver convention, but many of her more die-hard partisans may vote for her anyway.
A source close to the New York senator confirmed she won't file a formal request to the convention asking to be nominated along with Barack Obama, who eked out the victory in their fierce primary slugfest.

"She is not going to submit the signed request," the insider told the Daily News. "People are still circulating petitions on her behalf, but this is a done deal."
Party rules stipulate that Clinton must ask in writing to be nominated herself and also submit a petition signed by 300 to 600 delegates. Without her signed request, petitions of support are meaningless.

Her nomination would be window dressing because Obama's nomination is assured. But many of Clinton's most ardent boosters believe it's symbolically important to certify her glass ceiling-shattering candidacy with a formal nomination.

Nevertheless, delegates can vote for whomever they want during the roll call of the states. Personally and through surrogates, Clinton has counseled her 1,886 delegates to vote for Obama. A source familiar with discussions inside the Clinton camp told The News she may release those delegates when she speaks to the convention on Aug. 26.

"Depending on the dynamics, hundreds of delegates might decide to demonstrate their support and affection," a Clinton source speculated.
If so, that could be read as a dis to Obama from female Democrats still bruised by Clinton's defeat and resisting her pleas for party unity.

Other Clinton backers, however, worry that she could be embarrassed by a roll call because many of her delegates already have switched to Obama.

"Hillary Clinton is 100% committed to helping Barack Obama become the next President of the United States and realizes there are passionate feelings that remain among many of her supporters," said Clinton spokeswoman Kathleen Strand. "No decisions have been made at this time.

6. Got one of them on the phone doing Obama calls.
Her response was that she would vote for McSame. ' America deserves what it gets for the way Hill was treated.' Go figure. I think that Hill did her best to screw the Dems on her way out and we will all pay the price. Too bad that she speaks out now, after the damage has been done. Peace, Kim

8. My personal opinion is that those PUMA "loyalists" are such a small number
that they will have no effect on the outcome of the election.

4. You wont believe this but
They posted a news exactly opposite to this. They are saying that Hillary had allegedly told one of the PUMA members that she would want her name on the nomination ballot. So them PUMAs were dancing around until this news came out.

Now they are conflicted on whether to believe the news or the "prominent PUMA member". For now they are in denial.

to explain away her support for Obama.

They are delusional, all 37 of them.

Scratch that, 36. One died yesterday and was found off Montauk:

18. First thought? PUMA!
Other theories include sea turtle without shell, but it's not, or some canine whose mouth has been eaten away by sea critters so that it looks like a beak.

Or a photoshop fraud.

Don't be surprised when they believe the "prominent PUMA member" - or throw Sen. Clinton under the bus.

3. Excellent news!
I heart Hillary for this!

Many of the ardent Hillary supporters wield the power to go into their communities and kick up the vote.

Let's hope that in the coming weeks a significant number of them do just that.

We need to all be together on this damn thing or, seriously, this country is over.

9. She's a class act all the way.
She had every right to have her name placed in nomination. She controlled a significant amount of delegates...still pledged to her, if I'm not mistaken...and she had a right to be nominated and to have her delegates vote for her.

But she has placed party loyalty ahead of herself. And that is a class act.

11. What about Vice-President? Read between the lines
she will be Obama's VP choice and it will happen at the Convention...Obama will come down to the Convention at the end of Day 1 while Hillary's limousine is shown in a split screen heading to the Convention Center from her hotel and joining Obama at the dais to make thedramatic announcement that she is the VP selection: drama at the Convention

27. Her being the keynote speaker really means nothing at this point
it's just something the anti-Hillary people are clinging to.

Obama has kept his cards close to his vest. The DNC is not aware of who he will pick. The information will come out in time. It may NOT be Clinton. Biden and others have a very good shot at it. However, Clinton being the keynote speaker is in no way an indication one way or the other. Period. People trying to say otherwise are just desperate to believe that she has no chance at being VP.

19. I for one am not cheering.
Hillary Clinton is the first woman to come this far and almost win a presidential nomination. She ended with only 127 pledged delegates behind Obama. There should be a roll call for history's sake.

Obama is the party's nominee and no one should question that, but Hillary deserves the roll call. As a woman, I want to hear the roll call.

So no, I'm not jumping for joy that her historical candidacy is swept under the rug. Oh yeah, she'll speak on Tuesday night and will appear with the other Dem. female senators. Like they said the other day, that's her "consolation" prize.

:(

20. It's up to her
As the article mentioned, a lot of her delegates have already switched, so a roll call might embarass her by making the contest look not as close as it actually was. If they did a roll call and she only got 25% of the vote or even 35% that would be kind of embarassing. It's her decision, and she has decided not to have a roll call. If she wanted one she could have it.

22. She made her own decision regarding the roll call.
Her campaign isn't being swept under the rug. Most analysts say that Tuesday when she speaks, the anniversary of which women gained the right to vote, will be mostly centered around her ground breaking campaign. So she isn't being left behind, and you certainly can't get upset that SHE made her OWN decision to not sign for a roll call.

It's classy in my eyes. She'll get her moment in the spotlight on Tuesday, but she knows the convention has to be centered around Obama and his plan for America.

We don't need a roll call vote for history's sake.

28. Blame people like Lanny Davis
They forced her to do this with their divisive garbage. If not for people like him and the pumas we could have had a roll call no problem and given her the moment in the spotlight she deserved. Its because so many of her dead end supporters wouldn't do as you did and get on board that we are brought to her having to make this statement.

I am glad she did it.

32. and why wouldnt the spotlight be on obama?
Cause of the psycho puma people. Obama is the nominee. A roll call vote wouldn't have changed that unless there was a contingency there trying to make it an issue. She may be on board at this point but it was her deadend supporters that forced this decision. Do you think its a coincidence that this comes out a day after Lanny Davis's WSJ OP ED.
