1. Wow
Great numbers for a state that has voted so overwhelmingly for Republicans in the past. If Barr is on the ballot, it will hurt McCain significantly.

2. That's really close for Alaska. And given that the downticket races will definitely help Dems...
there's even an outside chance of turning the state blue. Both Alaska's at-large congressman and Sen. Ted Stevens face corruption charges, so the prevailing mood in Alaska should (hopefully) be "Throw the bums out!"

5. For once, we're finally on the offensive.
The GOP now has to defend about 5-10 states that were safe for them since before most of us could vote.

10. Alasks state polls always overstate Democratic support
If it says 5 then it's really closer to 10.

That won't be popular but I've posted it for years and I defy anyone to look at polls and results from that state and declare I'm wrong.

Betting on the Republican in Alaska is always a pick-up. I had Lisa Murkowski in '04 senate and Palin in '06 gov, both at underdog prices. I bet Palin early when the markets apparently thought the elder Murkowski would be the nominee and Knowles was favored.

We need to stop pretending in states like Alaska and South Carolina. The margins will be tighter but getting over the top is an entirely different matter, more of a burden than we estimate.
