Holy Shit: Obama +1 in INDIANA!
http://www.surveyusa.com/client/PollReport.aspx?g=d62471d9-b9f8-4274-8312-16c1006a5764

Within the margin of error, but still pretty surprising. Bush won by 21 points in 2004!

4. It's funny: I wrote a blog post a year encouraging the Democratic nominee to target Indiana
And Montana and Virginia, which initially did not look like a presidential battleground. People thought I was nuts at the time, but Obama is advertising in all three!

16. Every state should be a battleground
We've been retreating to the "blue states" for years now, and the Republicans haven't been shy about working in those same states.

I should send a christmas roast to Chairman Dean

2. I like the look of polls lately
I know it's way too early and it's not always good to get your hopes up but if, somehow, Obama took Indiana I think this would be a landslide of historic proportions.

This is HUGE. If he wins my home state, I will just be overjoyed. We were/are considered the 2nd or 3rd reddest state in the union.

6. Let's not get too excited yet.
While I'd love to hold the election tomorrow and get it over with, that poll's polling sample skews heavily toward the under 25 age bracket, which we can assume disproportionately supports Obama. It's good news, sure.

Most of my immediate family in Indiana is voting for Obama, 7 votes so far. My bro and sis-in-law have a two year old who when asked what he thinks of George Bush says "George Bush is stinky!" then follows it up by "John McCain is stinky too!". I tried to get it recorded to use as my ringtone but, you how 2 year olds are!

I'm glad to have supported him in 2004. Now, I'm almost kinda glad he didn't win the nomination in 2004. His term in as DNC chair has brought a winning strategy, against all conventional wisdom. Without him, we might still be looking at a Republican-controlled Congress.

The 50-state strategy is working! :bounce:

We Hoosiers can be a contrary bunch, and this state may be full of so-called rednecks, but that doesn't make us stupid. we have been doing somewhat better than surrounding states through this economic ewarthquake, but we know very well that the Bush years have not been good for us or the country. And so far nobody I've run into seems to care about Barack Obama's race. If they don't support him (and I don't run into too many who don't) they give other reasons. And this in a town where racism is not always frowned upon as it should be.

Being on the border of Indiana/Ohio I considered doing volunteer work over in Ohio by registering voters when I am not at work (my work schedule is odd and I get alot of time off). but maybe volunteer work in Indiana will also be something to look into.

In 2004 Bush won Indiana 1.5 million votes to Kerry's 1 million. However in the primary Hillary & Obama got 1.3 million combined votes. There were some operation chaos voters, but I would wager that 1.2 million democrats voted in the primaries. With McCain losing the radical base (none of the cons I know are going to vote for him or want to vote for him) Indiana may be in play.

54. The 50 state strategy is working!
We have a great chance of flipping some red states, we'll move some of the red to purple which will permit them to be flipped the next cycle, and of course we have great chances to win the battleground states, maybe even all of them.

I think we can pull some remarkable surprises, I refuse to believe that Texas and Kentucky cannot be brought into the fold. Whatever anyone feels about Dean, it has to be admitted the man is a visionary.

Other than avoiding shenanigans from our evil and shady friends from across the aisle, our biggest issue is that the Republicans have created such a wide array of problems that there is a solid chance we get the wrath if we can't dig the country out pretty damned quick and I think we're looking at a 16-20 year project.

59. Purely anecdotal, but I only saw Obama signs just recently in Indiana.
Just last week we drove up the west side of Indiana from Evansville to Crawfordsville. I saw ZERO McCain signs--NOT a single one. I saw a few Obama signs.

I made the comment to Kevsand that with that Primary having just happened so recently it was possible that they may have been holdovers, but it really amazed me anyway. FWIW, I didn't see GOP signs at all...
