Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will make a joint appearance in Washington next week before major Cllinton fundraisers to bolster support for the presumptive Democratic nominee among his former rival's backers, said a source familiar with the planning.

The two candidates also are looking at dates for a joint public appearance soon, the source said.

Some major Clinton backers have expressed frustration with the Obama campaign. Several backers of the New York senator took offense in particular at the Obama campaign's decision to name as the chief of staff to the vice presidential nominee Pattie Solis Doyle, a former Clinton campaign manager ousted in February, interpreting the move as a slap at Clinton and a signal she would not be chosen as the running mate.

Clinton finance director Jonathan Mantz sent out an e-mail message to high-level fundraisers inviting them to the meeting with Obama and Clinton.

"As we move forward, we invite you to join us for a National Finance Committee meeting with both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama on Thursday, June 26th in Washington, D.C., to discuss how we can work together to support Barack Obama and the Democratic Party."

2. Did you happen to see American Experience: Eleanor Roosevelt?

KOPB-TV (Channel 10) played the program here in Oregon a few days ago.

Mrs. Roosevelt overcame great obstacles in her life to achieve the prominence she well deserved. I tend to think of her as a co-President -- maybe one of the first! Unless, of course, you wish to consider Abigail Adams!

3. Yes. They left so much out. I don't know why they tried to pack it all in under 2 hours.

There was really nothing in it.

The film clips were fun, though.

But, it's better than nothing.

4. You're right. It could have been a mini-series, but at least it was completed.

I was born in 1939, and remember quite a bit about her from a very young age.

I remember Adlai Stevenson quite well, and haven't really thought much about that election. We were southern Democrats (Mom, Dad and me) when the state of Florida was solidly Democratic.

Thanks for your comments.

Cordially,

5. The Eleanor Roosevelt Story (1965) listed in IMDB.com --
Don't think I've ever seen that film.

6. I've got it on tape. It's oddly dreary...
the narration and music are kind of wearing.

Register here to see part of the Bettmann archive of photographs, among others:

There are slightly over 1000 of ER.

The library website for photographs - that copy easily to DU:

7. Thanks, Mookie. Looks like you are a Roosevelt admirer from way back!
I saw it on your profile!

8. She was a fascinating woman -- I do remember her rather tinny voice...

The details of their intimate lives are quite interesting in a ribald sense.

I could tell you some stories but I better not do it in open session here.

Best,

RL
