Another perspective on Obama's choice for VP and the Virginia Dilemma
I am inclined to think that Obama can not possibly live up to the hype of his inspiration stump speech. Few politician ever do. But Lets assume that he wins in a landslide in part because of weak performance of McCain. Barr nipping at his heels and huge turn out. Let say he cruises into a second term with 60% approval ratings.

What does the Democratic Party do for an encore? Obama is uniquely positioned to set up the next president and I suspect that has to be part of the Calculus on a VP selection. Yes the immediacy of 208 is uber important. He unlike most politicians need to pick someone capable of picking up the Obama Torch. RFK seemed destined to follow JFK not because they were brother but because they spoke to the next Generation. Clinton and Gore were similar but not as much.

I look at the field and look at who is ticket worthy and can have the same appeal....(Obamna at his best) I like the Virginia Boys alto but I just don't see Webb playing that role. in eight years even though he would help tremendously this cycle.

So how about this. Webb is running mate in 2008. Kaine takes his seat since he is term limited then in 2012 Webb runs again for the Senate and Kaine become the VP nominee.

Kaine if you watch him carefully is setup as Obama heir apparent, but I don't think he is ready for the VP role just yet.
