The bloggers have spoken...Obama's TOP THREE VP choices:
1. Sen. Jim Webb
2. Gen. Wesley Clark
3. Gov. Bill Richardson

(Edwards was actually #3, but he's ruled out the VP slot.)

http://www.politicalbase.com/profile/Mark%20Nickolas/blog/&blogId=2424

Yeah, okay *a* blogger, but heck there really is a lot of analysis behind it.

Richardson had been #1 on this blogger's list, but on this latest version (version 4), he slid to #4.

And oh yes:

that McCain will probably choose a woman for his VP candidate?

12. Which means we have to match him?
I've heard all kinds of opinions on this and really don't think anyone can predict what Obama really "needs" other than Obama. We need a woman, but not Hillary, or, we need a woman and it must be Hillary, or, we can't have two "ground breakers" (a black and a woman) on the ticket at the same time - which I personally disagree with).

I don't really think it matters all that much who either of them pick for veep unless the veep candidate is a superstar like Hillary or Al Gore or on the Republican side, well, nobody.

Hucklebee, who just saved a man and can play guitar and Condelisa Rice, she's an African American woman (Obama and Hillary together in a way) who is as big a hawk as mccain. :puke: at the thought of any of the repub choices.

14. So what?
Who cares?

You're not seriously suggesting that Obama's VP choice should be a woman simply to appease Hillary supporters, or because McCain might pick a woman as his running mate?

If Obama picks a male VP, and McCain picks a woman, would you then be voting for McCain?

26. IMHO the only semi-valid item in your list is "He's never held elective office"
I saw his "throw hat in ring" speech on teevee in 2003, and thought him an excellent speaker. And he had charisma.

The rest are irrelevant to the VP slot.

Seriously.... this ain't spontaneous. Someone with an agenda is driving this, and I want to know who and why.

And for fucks sake, let's get this straight once and for all... TWO SENATORS ON A TICKET IS SUICIDE.

Richardson? Excellent. Schweitzer? Great. Clark? Different sort of "executive" experience, but I can see the logic in that choice.

38. He had a whole hour with Tim Russert and pretty much blew it
especially when asked about being a lobbyist (or something) for energy companies.

Several on DU said that he should have been better prepared to questions like that.

And, I believe that New Mexico is 49th, or so, in education.

37. I see no consideration of "removal of an acting Democratic Senator/governor" in his analysis.
So,

This is not just about electing a Democratic President, this is about building a Democratic majority that can support said President.

Who would Kaine replace Webb with that we can be sure would be reelected? I haven't heard any serious names floated around.

41. One of those three fought like hell for Democrats in the past two elections.
He's also liberal, intellectual, and has four stars.

Richardson is way past his prime, seems to me. He was befuddled and even confused in this past election.

Webb is perfect for Virginia, but not nationwide politics, imho. And, we could easily lose his seat.

45. Virginia found Webb. New Mexico found Richardson. Seems to me another conservative Dem
would be capable of running a similar campaign.

The talent pool in each state needs to be expanded.

It is one of the reason why Obama is so refreshing. He came out of the state Senate, came to Washington, and is going for the gold.

I'd like to see more state Congress people raise up to national office.
