The Anti Rev. Wright: The fist bump

There seems to be a trend going on of Obama doing the fist bump with old white men, whether this is spontaneous or planned (probably a bit of both), its brilliant. I think it could go along way to take the perceived edge off of Obama with a lot of white voters. It takes a symbol of black culture (I know not really, but to a bunch of old white people I'm sure its seen that way) and an intimate gesture between Obama and his wife,m and transposes it onto his relationship with "the old white guy," the gesture is seen as black, but inclusive and non threatening. In addition its also widely used in sports, which is an arena in which older whites are usually most comfortable in cheering on and idolizing African Americans.

I realize how petty and trivial it seems, but so is a lot of politics. Again I don't know how much of this was overtly planned by the campaign and how much just happened , but its fuckin brilliant.

6. What about Bush Chest Bump and Arm Flex?

This is kind of crazy that the media is getting into a tizzy over the fist pump when Bush did a chest bump and arm flex (far more weird looking) with recent military graduates. There are some pictures of Bush doing this, but not a peep from the mainstream media, except on the Jon Stewart show. Yet, Obama does a fist bump, and folks read way too much into it.

So, Obama is getting a free ride, and we are unfairly targeting Bush?
