Obama Aide: You could have just E-Mailed
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/

Obama aide: 'You could have just emailed'

Obama aide Bill Burton, a campaign source says, went downstairs in their Chicago offices just now to collect a hand-delivered copy of John McCain's invitation to Goldwater-Kennedy-style debates with Obama.

"You know, you could have just emailed this," he told the middle-aged messenger.

The generation gap seems to be playing out at a lot of levels here, and come to think of it, it's striking that the McCain debate proposal includes nothing that couldn't have been done in the Goldwater days, and no nod to the existence of the Internet.

Grampy McSame is so lost

but couldn't get the stamp to stick to the screen!

Of course that's better than his first attempt -

Sen Obama <stop>
In 1963 Sen Goldwater and Pres Kennedy agreed to make presidential history by flying together from town to town and debate each other on the same stage <stop> in goldwaters words those debates would do the country a lot of good <stop>

His aids were seen just shaking their heads.

Immediately 'express mail courier service' popped in to her head. So she pulled the pencil out of her blue hair bun, picked up her rotary dial land line, and used it to call for delivery service.

48. I think it goes something like this
One year one of the candidates debates against Richard Nixon. Four years later, the other candidate debates LBJ. It's kind of like the Lincoln-Buchanan debates and the Steven Douglas - Ulysses S. Grant debates. Also like the Joe Louis - Ali video game fights.

57. I have a different take on this
Yes, it's true that it's easier to send an email. But in this historic election season, I think there's merit to having the request on McCain's campaign stationery. It's an historic document.

So, really, expediency may not be the issue. Having a document like this for the archives has significance.

62. Damn.. and just when McCain dropped a bundle on new "calling cards"
Edited on Thu Jun-05-08 04:44 AM by SoCalDem
Calling cards for social use were available during the 1850s, but it was between 1870 and 1900 that they were a mandatory part of the ritual surrounding ceremonial social visits. There was even a language of the calling card, whereby a specific message (condolences or congratulations) was conveyed by simple folding over a certain corner of the card. Calling cards also served as a tool during courtship, as evidenced by the tender printed messages adorned with bouquets, doves, and cupids found on a great many cards. Indeed, many old cards display colorful printed designs, decorative shapes, or messages such as “Forget Me Not” or “Accept My Love.”

The quintessential Victorian ephemera, calling cards were typically about 3 1/4 inches by 2 inches in size, but were made in a variety of styles and designs. They were initially turned out as plain cards with an imprinted name, but the penchant for adornment during the 1880s resulted in cards with embossed chromolithographed die-cut overlays that could be lifted to reveal the owner’s handwritten name. The die-cuts themselves are diverse, coming in many shapes and with greatly varying content, designs, and themes.
