John Edwards draws HUGE crowd in Land of Ashcroft!
It's almost 8:30 p.m. Sunday. John Edwards speaks in a few minutes in Springfield, Missouri -- hometown of the current attorney general, Jesus John Ashcroft.

The crowd at Southwest Missouri State is estimated at between 8,000-10,000 -- this in a region that's 65-percent plus GOP.

Bush came here last month and drew about 10,000 people.

Even in the Land of Ashcroft, the GOP is in trouble!

1. I'm loving it that Edwards is going to
all these states that are suppose to be written off.

I wish they both..Kerry and Edwards would go to all 50 states!

Why not?

14. Nobody has written off Missouri.
It's a horserace, but it is winnable. It's a great state for Edwards to stump in. I would have him work the circuit NC, VA, WV, PA, OH, IA, MI, WI, MN, MO, TN from now until the election. No other states. We could conceivably win them all.

Let Kerry work FL, WA, OR, CO, AZ, NM, AR, NH, and LA. Kerry also needs to hit CA, IL, PA, OH, and MI too just to lock those up.

2. Great, but... Jesus John Ashcroft?
Well, he must not be related to Jesus Christ.

I know Christ, and He is much nicer and more tolerant than Ashcroft.

5. It's the way we ...
... talk about him down here: "Jesus, that f---ing John Ashcroft ... "

It's also the way he views himself. Terrifying, but true.

13. Reminds me of Cosby joke
That's funny. Bill Cosby used to do this bit about himself and his brother. They thought their names were "Jesus Christ" and "Goddammit." Because they'd be out in the yard playing and their dad would yell:

"Goddammit, get over you. And Jesus Christ, you too."

Well, it was funny when Cosby did it...

4. I don't think that Ashcroft is especially loved in MO
Remember, he was defeated for office by a dead man.

10. One more tidbit ...
... from the Edwards appearance.

A Freeper type managed to make his way onto the media platform before the future veep spoke. The DNC rep found out and booted the infiltrator -- who promptly wormed his way over to a small group of protestors, about 20 in all.

Imagine: Twenty Republican razzers versus (a minimum) 8,000 Democrats in conservative southwest Missouri. Hope, it seems, is kept alive.

Kind of scary, when you get right down to it, but excellent username!! ;-)

That's not even mentioning the fact the Kerry wasn't even there, and John Edwards could STILL draw between eight and ten thousand in Springfield (!?!?!) I'm still in a sort of a :wtf: state of mind just hearing it, but very encouraging news!!

12. Just heard 'em say on tv
that the crowd was between 2000 and 10,000!! Looks like they could narrow it down a little better than that! LOL Or, perhaps the repigs tried to tell 'em it was only 2000, so they had to throw that number in? The really hilarious part was that they said there was about FIFTEEN protestors there! heeheeheee
