Democratic Vice Presidential nominee John Edwards is scheduled to visit Birmingham on Tuesday for a campaign fund-raiser.
Few other details about the North Carolina senator's visit were available Friday.
At the recent Democratic National Convention, Alabama delegates were eager for either presidential nominee John Kerry or Edwards to visit the state. During the 2000 presidential campaign, neither Democratic presidential nominee Al Gore nor his running mate, U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, visited the state.
Alabama has not voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since 1976, and recent statewide polls have shown President Bush with a double-digit lead over Kerry.
1. let Edwards march through the South like the proverbial Sherman to the sea
unlike in 2000, we cannot leave ANY VOTE ANYWHERE behind ... because the way we are each and all so interconnected in this day and age, influencing a voter in Alabama (which may not go "blue" as a state) could possibly turn into delivering 10 votes in Louisiana etc... am I making sense? A sort of degrees of NON-separation (LOL)
I'm in Alabama. Not many folks here proud enough of their president to put his bumper sticker on their cars. I've seen more kerry stickers and that is very unusual here.
Bush won here by about 14 points in 2000. It should be a lot closer this year.
I live in Louisiana and haven't seen nearly as many Bush/Cheney signs and bumper stickers this time around as I did in 2000. Don't get me wrong, there are still a large number of right-wing sheep who publicly praise Bunny Pants at every turn, but more and more folks are choosing to "remain silent" if you will.
Kerry/Edwards have and outside chance here if they choose to make a strong push!! I wish they would!!!!
