What is Kerry thinking taking a vacation now?
I understand that he should take a little time to regroup. Maybe a week. But as I recall, Dukakis took a vacation in 1988 while he was way ahead of The elder Bush. Then he got attacked to the point of getting spanked while he was on vacation. I don't like this.

1. I don't blame him for taking one
I'm often amazed at how much pressure these guys are under and taking some time off is understandable. He may take a few days or whatever off, but his people aren't.

2. He's tired, his voice is hoarse
He needs a new speech. He needs to reconnect. I don't even know that he's taking a week, I doubt it. But he does need a few days. The only time he makes mistakes is when he's been running hard for several weeks in a row. It's time. We're the ones who have to get the vote out anyway, it's time for us to take this energy and transform it into new voters. He did his part, we do our part. Then he'll be back to do some more.

3. Yeah. Dukakis lost because he took a vacation.
He had all the bases covered except for that vacation.

8. I don't know that he's taking a vacation. It's time off from the
campaign. I doubt that means he's not paying any attention to what's happening. Kerry has been in the political system too long to let happen to him what happened to Dukakis. Haven't you noticed he immediately attacked back on every dagger the Pubs threw at him?

Calm down. I think this campaign knows what it's doing.

10. He needs a break now forr the Big Push that is coming over the
next 11 weeks. He will have to rely on his Vice President and other democrats to carry the load while he is resting. That means all of us will have to do our part to dispell the lies BushCo. will be spewing over the next few days.

13. frankly, he's getting his ass kicked lately . . .
some of it's caused by BushCo, some by the press, some by his own self . . . the swift boat crap is having an impact, the Iraq position sounded wishy-washy, and his positions don't get more than a minute's play in the media . . . time to regroup and rethink, imo . . .

17. People need vacations
To refresh their minds and just relax. Kerry is the chilling type, so give him his chilling time.

Jesus, if Bush can take half his presidency off as a vacation, certainly Kerry is entitled to a week off now and then.

18. because he has campaigned hard for a long time
taking breaks once in a while helps keep the candidate up to it rather than be crappy on the campaign trail.

it doesn't matter how much someone campaigns if they aren't up to it.

19. True. An energetic Kerry= a kick ass Kerry
At the Portland rally today, he wasn't as animated as he usually is, nor was his voice as strong.
The man is taking a day off from a pretty gruelling cross-country campaign; I'd say he's earned his windsurfing.
Recharge, reload, and get those Republicans!!

20. The man needs a break....
...and his surrogates can carry the ball for a few days.

I hope this becomes a topic for the pundits. I would love for them to start discussing "vacations" in a race vs the Shrub.

21. What vacation?
I haven't read about a vacation. Is he taking off the weekend?

He will be in Cincinatti next week as well as Charlotte NC on Friday.

If he is taking off, it's just a few days.
