Not one Bush bumper sticker in Cheshire County NH.
Not a one! And not one yard or highway sign for Bush. This was not the case in 2000. I see many, many Kerry/Edwards signs and bumperstickers and a good many Dean bumper stickers (I assume that these folks will have the good sense to vote for Kerry/Edwards.) Also, the only canvassing that seems to be going on around here is Kerry canvassing, either by the Kerry campaign itself or by Swing the Vote. I know this must mean something good.

As I have posted before, NH is a "battleground" state that Bush won by 7,200 votes in 2000, thereby securing the 4 electorial votes he won by. In Cheshire County, 23,000 eligible Dems and independents DID NOT VOTE in 2000. This little County could make a big, big diference this time and it is clear that the Kerry folks are going to do everything they can to turn the vote out.

The lesson here...every little bit counts. Any little thing that we can do as individuals, when combined with all the other little things that people are doing, can build a huge wave in November.

Anybody here who is able, and has not volunteered to do something for Kerry/Edwards, however small, or who has not registered to vote, should be ashamed and, as far as I am concerned, has no standing to bitch if the incompetent gets in again.

1. WHOA!
That's crazy! Back in 2000 I was dating someone from Keene and there were Bush signs EVERYWHERE, some reaching near-billboard sizes!

2. Yup! I remember that too. Some of those signs were huge...
or, you would ride down a road and everybody had a Bush yard sign. It used to make me sick. Not so this year...so far!

7. Just driving through the area back then...
....made my blood pressure jump a ton of points! Sooooo glad the tide is turning. I would LOVE to see Bush lose NH this time around.

10. I've come to look at this election this way:
it will be a personal defeat for me if Bush wins this state. I am taking this race very personally and that's what gets me out canvassing when my old back tells me to stay home and let the youngens' do it!:-)

14. I live in Boston
...and would love to come up to NH sometime to do some canvassing, how can I get involved? I've never done anything like that before and am a bit shy, but I really think Kerry can take NH if we fight hard enough :)

16. Swing the Vote has a website.
I think it's swingthevote.us. I canvassed last week with some folks who had come up from North Hampton and I handed out fliers a few weeks ago with some folks who had come up from Boston. Since Mass is a non-issue, I'm sure that alot of energy is coming up here. Try that web site.

19. We're having a canvass in Maine on the 28th
I'm pretty sure there's a group from MASS coming to join us. I'm not sure of the particulars.

I do agree with Raven, we have to do all we can now to elect Kerry/Edwards. I shudder to think of the consequences of a Bush election! Maine is a "swing" state, too. We actually have the ability to split our electoral votes. Two votes go to the winner of hte state and one each to the winner in each CD. THe First CD is strongly Kerry but the Second, where I live, is a toss-up. I'm afraid that the campaign is writing off this electoral vote and not spending the time or money here. So it's important that the "grassroots" take over and make noise to get our message out. I'm doing my best and I have a great group of people working with me.

Thanks for getting involved!

9. Keene, for starters

Hancock (even though it's not CC- close enough), also other parts of NH (around Concord). We're house/raw land hunting...

(oh, and playing golf at Bretwood, too) :)

11. Hancock is not far from me!
About two towns over, I'm in Marlborough. Have you checked out the Northern New England Real Estate (NNEREN)web site, it's good for that kind of a search.

5. Great news!
Kerry's lead here in Michigan, another 'battleground' state has widened to 7 points.

I was pleasantly surprised by how many Kerry stickers I saw in Kentucky in early July. Saw some Bush too, unfortunately, but there were more Kerry stickers than Bush, at least where I was traveling.

8. Litchfield is
in the middle/south eastern part of the state, about halfway between Nashua and Manchester. It's about a hour from me. Cheshire is in the far southwestern part of the state.

15. I live in a solid Republican state and the same is true here
I have seen no Bush*Cheney signs at all. I have seen a few for Lisa Murkowski though. She is our US Senator who was never elected but placed there by her father who became our governor. More Knowles signs also. He is the Democrat running against her. We may just win a Senate seat. Fingers Crossed.

17. An outstanding sign
Forgive my redundance in repeating this, but as a native of NH and current Nashua resident I have never, ever felt so confident about a Democratic presidential candidate taking this state, including Clinton.
