Gallup 5/25: Obama's lead over Clinton shrinks to 5% among Dems; GE: Clinton>McCain, McCain>Obama
http://www.gallup.com/poll/107488/Gallup-Daily-Clinton-Maintains-Lead-Over-McCain.aspx

Gallup had shown Obama leading Clinton by 16% among Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters, just a week ago. Now it's down to 5%.

A few days ago as Obama's lead over Clinton among Dems started to shrink, Gallup wondered if it was a statistical fluke or a trend. Now it seems to be a trend.

Clinton's average 5% lead over McCain in the GE seems to be a trend as well, with Obama doing much worse against McCain in Gallup's polling of registered voters.

46. You will have told us so.
I get the sense that you are hoping Obama loses so you can tell us you told us so.

Unfortunately for Hillary, the people who support Obama support him in part because they think he can win. They have seen what a dynamic campaigner he is, how he always improves his standing in the polls in the months before the election while Hillary fritters her lead away. Jeez, was it last December that Hillary was leading Obama by 25?

So, you look at today's polls and believe Hillary is better. Other people look at today's polls and at the relative campaigning abilities of the candidates, and believe that Obama is more likely to win. You can argue whether this is right, but you can't just look at a poll that shows HRC doing better than Obama compared to McCain and immediately expect everyone to think she'll win.

47. The people who support Hillary also support her because they think she could win the GE.
Please understand/accept that.

And no, I don't expect everyone to think Clinton would win in the GE.

And I don't hope Obama will lose. I'm afraid he might. I still think we need a unity ticket to win, though at this point that doesn't seem possible. I'm afraid we'll lose without it.

I posted about this poll because of the disparity between how Dems viewed Obama's recent exchanges with McCain -- we all cheered and thought Obama had won those -- and how it impacted all registered voters. There doesn't seem to have been any bump for Obama in those GE results. Meanwhile, Clinton is still polling pretty steadily at 4-5% above McCain, despite all the media attacks on her.

I also posted it because it shows the party is still pretty evenly divided between Obama supporters and Clinton supporters. And that means unity will be necessary to win in November.

And I'm not sure how to achieve that unity without having Clinton on the ticket.

I don't know what we Dems are going to do. I don't think Clinton can win the nomination, but I also don't think Obama can choose anyone other than Clinton as VP who will be acceptable to most of her supporters.

Obama's support is tanking.
He is unelectable.

We will lose Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida with him as the nominee.

53. Be serious
You need to give it a rest. Hillary is done kaput etc. The dems won't lose Pa because of Barack. There is a reason republicans want to face Hillary instead of Barack. The republicans are scared to death of Barack. First off Hillary only beat Barack by 9+% in PA. Barack will still get all those who voted for him and half if not more of those who voted for Hillary. Did you really expect Hillary to woo the republicans to her side? All the evidence points to republicans voting for Obama rather than the other way around. Ohio will yield the same scenario. Don't be fooled by Hillarys claim she is so popular in FLorida because of that primary. Barack hadn't campaigned there at the time and was an unknown. He is there campaigning now for the GE and is speaking to record crowds especially in the Cuban community which will carry the day come the election.

34. Frank Rich disagrees with you
Frank Rich, an Obama favorite, disagrees with you:

REALLY, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton should be ashamed of themselves for libeling John McCain. As a growing chorus reiterates, their refrains that Mr. McCain is “willing to send our troops into another 100 years of war in Iraq” (as Mr. Obama said) or “willing to keep this war going for 100 years” (per Mrs. Clinton) are flat-out wrong.

55. Gallup
Polls are all over the map again. I don't trust Gallup one bit despite his popularity. If my memory is accurate Gallup is a "born again evangelical" and a conservative at heart. We don't know what or how he may have phrased the questions being asked to the respondents. There is still hay to be made by making it appear Hillary has a chance or should be allowed to carry on. I suspect Gallup is still trying to carry the pail for the republicans.
