It's actually elementary (Watson), but in 2008 the primaries/caucuses began earlier than any other year. For instance the Iowa caucuses were in the first week of January while in '92 I believe they were in late January or early February. That means that May is the new June. In effect since the primaries begin earlier they end earlier and it's clear that Obama has already clinched the nomination. The primaries already have lasted longer than they did when Bill ran because they started earlier.
