2. Well, Biden-Obama was the way it was supposed to go, so we had the WH for 16 years
Edited on Fri May-23-08 01:45 PM by JoeIsOneOfUs
but I'd be happy with Obama-Biden as long as Obama wants a strong, active VP.

Biden should be VP or Sec. of State. Newsweek article posted in the Biden group makes it sound like Sec of State, but if there are problems with other VP nods (e.g., Webb-women article on HuffPost), maybe Biden will move up.

(edit for typo)

21. I agree --
It would have been nice to see Batman hand the baton to Robin after 8 years, but regardless, they'd make a great combo. They complement each other very well, and I think there's a lot of mutual respect.

Plus, I think Biden would be a draw to the Repubs who aren't all that thrilled with McCain, and winning in November is the ultimate goal.

10. There are so many good tickets. This is one of them.
My usual issue with losing a sitting Senator remains, though. I'd prefer Obama pick a governor, or someone no longer in the Senate (or possibly a general...)

But Biden really, really impressed me this campaign season. I used to not like the guy at all, but I'm convinced he's the shark, the hatchet man, the guy who's willing to be nasty as hell in the service of his country and he'd make a terrific VP, and he'd be great on the campaign trail.

29. Me: #1, his idiotic RAVE act. #2, his ego. #3, his propensity to stick foot in mouth.
He's also a little too far to the right, militarily, for my tastes.

But he's a smart guy, I'd like to see him in an Obama administration; just not as Veep, and not in anything having to do with Domestic Social Policy.

35. What prominent politician
doesn't insert a foot in their mouth now and then? Look at who's in the news now, as we type. I don't understand why this is a stigma just for him, he says far more intelligent and insightful things than most.

38. I don't want her on the ticket, either.
I have issues with Biden; I think that RAVE act was a supremely idiotic piece of legislation, for one.

But he's a smart guy, he's a capable guy, and frankly I would be surprised if Obama didn't tap him for some high-level position.

With his brains, maybe he should be in charge of working on 21st century energy solutions and policy.

Just not Veep.

36. They did that to Clark in '04
and IMO Edwards and Biden this time. And Kucinich every time.

To be fair, Biden was noticed after the first debate, but he was starting well behind in fundraising. The overall pattern seems to be that the media covers the "serious" candidates, serious defined as moneyed. And occasionally stoops to mocking the others (hey, the majority will laugh, right?).

If ever there were an argument for public financing of elections, this is it.

23. Biden would be a excellent choice. Dem governor could appoint successor
He bring foreign policy credentials/national security, etc. Being from Delaware isn't much of an electoral advantage but he may help in neighboring PA and NJ.

30. It's a good ticket.
I think Webb might be a better running mate, but the truth is that there are all kinds of potentially great tickets out there: Richardson, Dodd, Clark, Sebelius, Feingold, Boxer, etc. But I'd be enthusiastic as hell if Biden got the nod.

32. Webb's been around a long time,
though he looks remarkably young for his age. What bothers me most is that he's very much a so-called centrist. But for election year calculus, that may not be such a bad thing. He brings a good geographical balance to the ticket, and crossover appeal with the strong-on-defense voters. I'm not convinced he's the right person for the Veep spot, but he impresses me a lot.

34. I think he would be great! He would go after every statement McBush
makes regarding foreign policy. The only thing that would be bad is that he has been in the Senate for a while and I'm sure there are a lot of votes that the Repubs could twist to make him look bad.

That is my dream ticket. I'm not a big fan of Joe Biden. He is a glory hound, and I don't like his propensity to distort history to try and make a political point. He also voted for the IWR resolution, which in my mind disqualifies him for VP (along with Clinton, Dodd, and Edwards)

47. Biden would own McCain on foreign policy...
In fact he's already been doing it. Remember when he called Bush out for his attack on Obama during Israel's 60th Anniversary? Biden has exactly what Obama needs: he's an old white guy with foreign policy credentials. Plus he's a genuinely nice guy and I'm sick of dirty politics. I'm all for an Obama-Biden ticket.
