"I like cocaine and hookers because they're the fun thing to do." (close paraphrase)

32. a little too late to paraphrase, but I will try my best:
he said he was hesitant to list all his Jewish friends because of the "I'm not racist, some of my best friends are black" thing. He mentioned some of his Jewish supporters, his close Jewish friends and advisors on Israel. He mentioned how he had trouble getting elected in Chicago, because AA thought he was too close to the Jewish community (mentioned where he lived, but I forgot the name of the neighborhood).

He also said that he knows and has discussions with people who have made racist comments in the past, that it is important to hear from every side of the issue, but that he wil tell people if he disagrees with them. That he cannot be held responsible for everything that everyone who supports him says, and guilt by association must stop.

Standing ovation followed.

....because I think his excellent answer broke a lot of people out of a suspicious mindeset they may have been in, either prior to the Town Hall or because of the fliers handed out by the Rethugs before it.

a pre-set, generic response, takes the time to really listen to the question, think about the core of the question and demonstrates respect for the audience member by giving a thorough, thoughtful answer. It is VERY impressive, imo.

46. I dunno, I rather liked the concept. I'd rather have...
...a Republican in the cabinet who knows how to do the job and will do it with President Obama's vision in mind that some divisive fuck like Lieberman who is a DINO.

It takes guts and balls possibly than Stephen Colbert's (when he roasted Bush to his face) to make a statement like that and I respect the subtler sentiment behind it.

...the town hall. I swear to God, do other politicians need 5 advisers to take a shit? Because the more I watch Obama, the more I realize that you can be a politician and give meaningful answers, give them off the cuff, and talk about issues without advisers because you're thinking about those issues.

Edited on Thu May-22-08 05:04 PM by Poll_Blind
...suspicions being thrown at them about Obama, sometimes from very trusted places.

Fearlessly wading into the river, answering that "Name Jewish friends you have who are anti-Terrorist and pro-Israel" question, and coming out the other side, completely dry, is just another example of his ability to understand and communicate the issues.

He was quite a bit funnier than usual and that also helped bleed some of the tension for quesions which everyone was carefully listening to the answer of. And his rebuttal of the Rethug talking points mentioned in the flier handed out before the Town Hall were great. I think he got the point across that people are going to lie about him any way they can. His "If you don't like my policies, don't vote for me. If you don't like my message, don't vote for me. But don't hold your vote from me based on something that isn't real."

Great questions (sans the one mentioned above) and great, solid answers.

  What are your thoughts?
