I don't like Susan Rice very much.
I'm an Obama supporter, but I don't think I like the way his foreign policy adviser just represented him on MSNBC.

She was asked about the statement that Iran (and a few other countries) is not as big a threat as the USSR was.

Instead of trying to distance Obama from his own words, why not just remind the viewers that the USSR had enough nukes pointed at us to wipe us off the planet? Wasn't Senator Obama's point that despite this most grave of threats we managed to undertake both back-channel and direct talks between our heads of state? And if we can engage in direct diplomacy in the face of Mutually Assured Destruction, we can do so to deal with Iran, Cuba, and so on?

I'm just saying... why look shady when we don't have to?

1. She did a poor job in that interview.
But I've seen her do much better on other occasions, so I'm not ready to give up on her yet.

2. What DID she say?
And you bring up an excellent point -- just gotta say, "let's see, how many nuclear weapons did the USSR have - and how many does Iran have?"

A complaint I've had about some of Obama's responses is that he gets in to an explanation-type of reply instead of just, as you suggested, giving the one-two punch which sums it up perfectly.

3. She did. Perhaps you should have listened to the entire segment before you attacked her.

I thought she was great... as always.

11. Hmm... I guess I should re-watch it.
First of all, when did I attack her? If I somehow missed her saying what I thought she should have, yes, that is my fault, but my saying that I don't like her is not an attack.

Second, even if she acquitted herself when I was having a brain fart, she led off by trying to say that Senator Obama used "tiny" to refer only to the size of a country and not to the magnitude of the threat it poses to us. Whether that was the senator's intention or not, it sounds like a stupid explanation. It sounds like the kind of thing one says when cornered. And it was completely unnecessary.

I have seen her perform better on other occasions but she has never struck me as brilliant. Ironically, the only time I found myself very happy with her performance (she was on Tucker discussing the fact that nobody is ready to face the challenges of being Commander in Chief until they have to do it), she was largely criticized for her choice of words.

I guess I've just come to expect better from Team Obama than what I saw today.

4. I seen it too. Normally she is extremely good..
Edited on Wed May-21-08 01:10 PM by Bensthename
very knowledgeable and speaks with confidence..

But yah she should have pointed out more clearly that USSR's massive number of nukes compared to the countries he was talking about have none, yet.

7. I'm surprised.
I usually love Dr. Rice's "no nonsense" approach. Did she really walk back from Obama's statement of offer proper "context"?

9. Nah, she just stumbled a little.. She wasnt quite as tight on her arguments as usual but she did
fine.. She got her message out, but it was a little more jumbled then usual for her.. No biggey, she still got it right in the end and did Obama well.
