want you vote"!!!

He said she should stand behind her years of civil rights work, take a principled stand against racism

19. Think about it. She just might say it. She has been for racial equality since I was a young woman.
She is eight years younger than I am.

This is a woman who honestly believes she can answer her country's call -- as our president. I do believe she would also accept VP, which would unite our party.

Every passing second she actively courts the racist vote, her future in the party grows dimmer.

47. Don't hold your breath! She didn't castigate Ferraro's racist drivvle.....
Edited on Tue May-20-08 10:45 PM by earthlover
Of course Ferraro had to resign, but at no point did Hillary speak out against racism. Not then. Not today. Not ever.

Instead she talks about her appeal to those working, hard working....whites.

It is no wonder that 20% of Kentucky voters voted because of race and almost all of them voted for Hillary.

Yet she shows no...none...nada...zilch....evidence of speaking out against these bigots who voted for her.

I say give these back woods racist idiots their worst nightmare: a black president! I can't wait to hear from their consternations.

84. Hillary can still help unite the party from afar. She doesn't have to be on
the ticket to speak out against racism. If her speaking out against racist assholes like the ones who carried her to victory in WV & KY is "conditional", then that means she was old big old hypocrite for all those 35 years.

I don't think two Senators, whose origins are in IL, are the right blend for the ticket. We need a strong southerner to partner with Obama, preferably with some national security cred. Hillary on the ticket, while it may unite our party, does absolutely nothing in the way of attracting Independents and disaffected Republicans.

I repeat.

Hillary is not a racist.

I am not a racist. I pledge to vote for the Democratic ticket when it is formulated. Until then, I will continue to hope and work for unity.

Hillary was active in civil rights before many of you were born.

I'm sick of the absolute drivel that GD: P has produced and look forward to more consideration for a candidate who has proved his/her mettle in every way.

70. there is a difference, as I'm sure you know,
between saying that someone is "racist" and saying that someone uses race opportunistically. I don't think that Sen Clinton believes in the inherent superiority of white people (or the inherent inferiority of African Americans), but I do believe that she uses her whiteness to political advantage.

I can anticipate the response: but Obama uses his Blackness to political advantage, too! And I would agree that, in part at least, that is true: as someone within the community, Sen Obama knows how to speak to the community in a way that white politicians do not. But because African Americans are a small portion of the electorate, and because he has to rely upon whites in a way she does not have to rely upon African Americans, it is an asymmetrical relationship--and, indeed, one that, like most asymmetrical relationships in the US, favors white candidates.

:-) Last Sunday, May 18th. I really hate to poke immense holes in your argument, but what if they joined together? Did you see the crowd? We don't have many black people in Oregon... Here's another thing to think of... if Hillary is like her husband (and many people accuse her of that), why do people argue that Bill was "the first black President" and he moved his offices into Harlem after he left office. Do you think his wife backed him up on that?

81. It kind of blows through the whole idea that "many/most/all whites will vote only for whites" and
"many/most/all blacks will vote only for blacks". Once you realize that, you just have to have somebody atop saying it over and over. What's more, wouldn't it be great to actually have somebody TELL their audience that they embrace change, just by being on the ticket?

I'm sorry, but I feel that would be the best alternative we have. I won't even go into the gender mix, because I honestly believe that Hillary would pick up votes if she is in either place on that ticket.

Cordially,

Radio Lady in Oregon

college voters to racists. That is the most outrageous thing I've seen on this website. I would compare the voters you described to her voters that vote for her entirely because of Bill Clinton. At least those voters are voting FOR something and not against something. Compare the sexists to the racists, but quit comparing other voters with racists because it's pretty damn offensive that you'd paint with such a broad brush.

45. Should have said it back in Nevada when her pollster said that Latinos won't vote for a black
Hrc camp uses racism and sexism as a sleazy way to win. Her supporters, the democratic party and the media should have said something back then. That is when she split the party. If she cared about civil rights she would have made a big speech about race and promised the American people that she wants a clean and honest race. To look past gender and race because they are both good dems and for the American people to vote on the issues. Then I would have no problem with a joint ticket. But for months Hillarys camp has used race to win. They felt comfortable in telling people they have a lock on Latinos because that group won't vote for any blacks. Comfortable in talking about white working class people are the most vital to this party. Hilary should have stood up for civil rights a long time ago but failed because she wanted to win at all cost. Now whose the loser jackass

53. I agree. And Obama should say, "If you're going to vote for me because of her gender,
I don't want your vote."

68. 60% of the Democratic primary electorate is female...
In a Democratic primary with such a high female turnout, I would say it's safe to say race is a bigger issue. In a general election, I think they would be similar issues since the G.E. electorate has around a 5-8% higher total of men voting.

71. That is true...
Edited on Tue May-20-08 11:07 PM by TTUBatfan2008
but I will say right here and now that I will not ever vote for Hillary because of her POLICIES, including the recent idea of obliterating Iran. Sounds great, let's just crank up WWIII with China and Russia. I would vote for Barbara Boxer over Obama. I would vote for Claire McCaskill over Obama. That's a couple that come to mind immediately. Hell, Elizabeth Edwards would get my support and she's even less experienced than Obama!

75. There are plenty of white people who have legitimate
(non-racist) reasons for not supporting Obama as well. It goes both ways.

58. she's no Ross Perot
PEROT: If you want to make a difference with the people because of their race, their religion, their color, I don't want your vote. We are only going to be a great country if we come together and unite.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0011/02/lkl.00.html

But let me just say to all of America: if you hate people, I don't want your vote.

61. He also said she should address the Rev. Wright issue
and tell voters and her supporters that she's spent a lot of time with Obama and can personally vouch for his moral values and ethics. That would set her up on a very high road and position herself well for whatever she wants to do in her political future. Gergen has some pretty good ideas.

62. I switched from MSNBC because they let Pat Buchanan on to spew
MSNBC is crying about the fact that Obama can't win the white racist vote and then they let Buchanan on. The fact that one in five Kentuckians are openly stating that they voted against Obama because of his race.

Makes you wonder who these people are that are voting for Hilary and if they will be there in November. Big contrast between CNN and MSNBC. One channel (MSNBC) is predicting doom if the Dems nominate a black man and the other (CNN) is decrying the fact that people are proudly stating that they voted on against the black man because of his race.

I think it's a mistake to nominate a candidate that is picking up the racist vote.

85. Yeah... I only heard Gergen because I switched off Pat Buchanan
Just couldn't take his ranting any longer.

I wish MSNBC would let him go... he's totally predictable and uninteresting. It's okay with me that they have Repubs on... I think hearing different sides is good. Buchanan's bias, aside from his conservatism, is towards drama and political theater so his "analysis" is all about catastrophe and high drama... always divorced from reality. He doesn't really add anything constructive, creative or original to the conversation.

82. Great idea,
I then want to hear the same speech from Obama about the AA vote.

I had enough with the B.S. that 90% of AA are voting for Obama based on the issues, but whites who vote for Hillary must be only doing so because they are a bunch of racists.

That's extremely condescending and disrespectful to her supporters.

How about this, they are not voting for him because he's the least experienced presidential candidate in modern times. Yeah, yeah, I know he served in the state senate. So what? that's the minor leagues.
