Why is Obama so favored to win Oregon, Montana and South Dakota?
Come on, the Hillary people should be able to explain this one since Obama can never win whites as they keep telling us. Obviously he won't win those states on the basis of their overwhelming black populations.

And please don't tell me that it's because Montana and South Dakota are full of Starbucks and birkenstock wearers.

15. Elitist whites who care nothing about their fellow Americans
You know, the kind of people Obama was speaking to in Northern California when he said ignorant Pennsylvanians blame illegal immigration and outsourcing for costing them jobs and suppressing their wages.

Those are the people that are giving Obama his lead--his fellow globalist elitist supporters.

And 'm sorry, the global elite, through federal lobbyist and PACs, shoveled most of their money into whose campaign? Oh yeah, Clinton's.

It'd be funny if a single Clinton-supporter smear of Obama withstood even a cursory look at the facts.

25. South Dakota Has Outlawed Abortion.
Montana is a pretty "leave us alone" kind of state. They have, in the past, thought that Republicans tend to do that.
South Dakotans, too, tend to be further right than left. More moderate than left.
Oregon is a mixed bag. Very environmentally conscious, as we saw when McCain went there and began blathering about saving an environment he has no interest in, according to his Senate record. They are quite independent in their attitudes. They have a Right to Die law in the state. (and I hope we will soon have it in this state).

They may all believe that Obama would be a change in the way things are done, in spite of the backing of those who have been in office and done things in the same way for a very long time. Even moderates and those who lean a bit to the right, even those who usually pay no attention, are beginning to think the Republicans reign has been beyond disastrous.

South Dakotans turned out not to be the knuckle draggers the GOP thought they would be. All that stunt did was prove what the "pro-life" folk are really attempting. And it ain't what they have been telling voters.

That's the history to which I refer. In states where there is fear of blacks historically, there is racism towards blacks unseen in other states.

47. Yeah, I think that is the answer. Very simple and blunt, but true.
Montana and South Dakota have their share of poor, uneducated whites just like West Virginia. But there's not really a history of racism towards blacks (at least compared with much of the rest of the country).

I grew up in a rural state bordering these two, and the issue of race just wasn't high on people's minds. You'd hear white people talk about Indians (Native Americans) and that talk could sometimes get racist, but not to the level of virulent hatred.

It's a subject that interests me, especially because the plains states have been solid for the red column for some time now, at least in Presidential elections.

Anyone care to offer up some stats on the demographics of Democratic voters in those states? Number of registered Dems vs Repugnants, economics, income, etc... ?

Thanks in advance to anyone who wants to dive in here with their analysis.
