Whatever our political disagreements, congratulations to this young girl for sticking to her dream

16. I mean that sincerely.
Politics is dirty business so it's kind of unrealistic to expect candidates to act like angels on their way to the second coming. You guys played very hard and won W.VA in a game that has few rules so we can't cry foul. Congratulations :)

17. They're Americans just the same as under educated, gun owning
Edited on Tue May-13-08 09:44 PM by Catherina
poor Blacks. In Detroit they call them thugs, in West Virginia I imagine rurual Blacks farm and go hunting and catch game the same as Whites.

Whoever is President has to be President for all Americans so does it really matter what the demographics are unless you're a politician trying to capture the vote? I don't think we have any right to resent the results. I think we need to focus on education in this country and bring everyone to a point where they see the content of other people's character instead of the color of their skin or their sexual apparatus.

I want Obama to win badly because I think he'll be a better President but the bottom line, according to the rules of the charade we go through every 4 years, is that under educated, gun-owning Blue-collar Whites get as much of a say in who governs them as the Birkenstock, Latte-drinker in Marin County.

She got a lot of women, physicians, nurses, lawyers etc in W.Va, 72% (or whatever the margin is) aren't under educated, gun owing, blue collar whites. Why cheapen the victory?

19. That's been all over the US but I really don't think it's had much of an effect
Maybe in states where the vote was within a few points, like Indiana but when the margin is that close, you can thank anyone who recommended a particular vote.

I have a hard time believing that many Republicans are so full of hate for a Black man that they would cross over and vote for a White Woman they persecuted for so many years. Rush isn't that powerful, his audience shrunk so much he doesn't even rate a TV show. How many do you really think crossed over? I'd bet no more than a couple thousand in W. Va and that's peanuts. People vote for what they know and like. They couldn't connect with Obama and the Clintons worked hard there when they realized things weren't going their way. I think there's a lot of racism in W. VA nut but that's a different discussion.

34. Here in WV the primaries are closed to your party
I seriously doubt any repubs re-registered just to vote as a Democrat.
There are a whole lot of Clinton supporters here. Most likely no rush influence
was in play here.

I wish Hillary would drop out but it's her given right to run. Tonight's a victory night for all the little people on the ground who made it happen. They'll be just as tenacious to the end. My mother already told me come hell or high water, she won't abandon Hillary out of personal gratitude for something the Clintons did that affected her immensely. Tenacity's the name of the game.

In November if (and when) he is the nominee. She did not attack him at all, and I appreciate that. Congratulations to her on her W.VA victory and to her supporters.

After this is all over I look forward to standing together with all Democrats in supporting our nominee to make a better future for this country.

27. No thanks please. You guys did the work and deserve our congratulations
even if the rules suck and the game is nasty. These primaries are particularly nasty but they won't last forever.

The Democratic Party is leaps and bounds above the Republican party when it comes to looking out for the common American. If we don't reconcile, we're all gonna lose starting with the most vulnerable among us.

There's hope. Without hope, they win and we're not going to let that happen :toast:

31. I'm not forgetting those things
or sending roses to Hillary. I think this is one of the most important political battles of the century because we're not just kicking out the Republicans but we're redefining the Democratic Party. There's no room in my heart for the DLC or unevolved people who have a problem with Ayrabs or differentiating between mine and thine when it comes to resources.

My congratulations are to the decent supporters she has. It's a nasty game and she won W.Va. fairly and as squarely according to the rules of the game. You know I can't stand her but she worked her ass off down there and so did her supporters. I just want to congratulate them for their hard work. They didn't write the rules of this nasty game and it's not her supporters' fault they're caught in a nasty fight. The roses are for Obama.

32. Except they're not playing the same game.
Obama is running for president. Hillary is running to destroy him, and she has lots of help from the darkest of dark players, and there's nothing remotely fair or square about it. She isn't fighting for Roe vs Wade anymore than she's fighting for McCains gas tax gimmick. She's "fighting" for the most evil shits on the planet just like she "fought" to defend a rapist by lying about a teenage rape victim.

I'm sorry Hillary supporters haven't figured out that they're being played but they are, just like the Catholics who voted for dick and dumbshit over an idiot wedge issue.

37. I'm not disagreeing with you on the game
But if you look at it that way, aren't we all being played by someone? By corporations or the wealthy elite?

Is the personal belief that people are being played reason enough to hate my brothers and sisters? Many who congratulated us when Obama won despite their painful disappointment? Were you ever played by a politician? I remember being played and the sadness of finding out what the meaning of is really was and everything that came afterwards.

Tomorrow I plan to go right back to fighting for Obama but tonight I just want to congratulate all the people who worked very hard in this nasty game. I think we can be vigilant against lies and liars while still supporting the honest people who see things differently. Let me tell ya. My mom's a Hillary supporter because of gratitude for the Family Leave and Medical Act that allowed her to take 2 months off work and spend night and day by my father's hospital bed when he was suddenly crippled by a terminal disease that left him 2 months to live. She's not being taken on any wedge issue and is as disgusted with this war as I am. This congratulation is for the millions of good people like her, that's all. It's not an endorsement of anything.

Do you remember all the HRC supporter threads congratulating Obama and his supporters? I think rising in kind will help us all. :hi:

39. I know you mean well and I'm not knocking anyone's supporters.
What I'm saying is this race was not like Iowa, where nobody knew what to expect and they were just starting out. The game is over, the nominee has been chosen, and there's no possible way short of catastrophe for Hillary to win. So pretending this was just another battle in an undecided contest is perpetuating a delusion that is absolutely NOT in ANY of our interests to promote.

And no, I don't think we're being played by Obama and his endorsers the way Clinton supporters are at all. I trust Caroline Kennedy for example, but I do not trust Mark Penn.

42. Foot soldier to foot soldier congratulations
I think it's over and most Hillary supporters I know think so too. I can't fault them for having a glimmer of hope as long as HRC remains in the race and the party rules allow her to continue. It's not a pleasant situation for anyone. I don't think we're being played by Obama or his endorsers but I do think we're being played by the system, all of us. I love support Obama and trust him but I love my Hillary-supporting brothers and sisters too. When this is over, we'll all be fighting McCain and they put on a hell of a fight for Hillary. These are foot soldier to foot soldier congratulations. Good-night. It's been a long day. See you on the battleground in the morning :hi:

33. There are a lot of classy people supporting Clinton. They deserve it
My mom's one of them :toast:

I've been getting to know several very cool HRC supporters like Marrah_G here and it reminded me that we're not enemies. For the last few days I've been making a little list I keep taped to my monitor at home.

It has the names of all the HRC supporters who've been gracious, kind, honest and or very positive in their respect of others. The main purpose isn't to keep track but to serve as a constant reminder that there are very good people here who support her. That little list amazingly just keeps growing. It's true I barely recognize some of the names but that just serves as a reminder that there are tons of decent people who rarely post.

If all the old threads weren't locked, I'd kick up some of the really nice threads HRC supporters wrote to congratulate Obama supporters when we won.

There's no reason for us not to meet such people on a higher level. All that came from just starting a tiny little list a few days ago when Marrah and I had an exchange. Congratulations :toast:
