(VA Gov Warner and NC Speaker) Black says Kerry will help economy

By ROB CHRISTENSEN, Staff Writer

N.C. House Speaker Jim Black and Virginia Gov. Mark Warner said the election of a Democrat to the White House would boost the economy and balance the budget.

"This go-it-alone policy is going to break the economy at home and possibly the world," Black said in a conference call to promote the Kerry-Edwards plan to balance the budget.

Black said the North Carolina economy has lost more than 160,000 manufacturing jobs and about 35,000 textile jobs partly as a result of Bush administration trade policies.

"Unless we have a strong national administration," Black said, "I think our economy is going to be in the doldrums for years to come." <snip>
