Clinton Surrogate: Whites Won't Vote for Obama in the General Election
Edited on Sat May-10-08 12:48 PM by K Gardner
Now - I had not planned to post again about the disgusting race war the Clinton's and their surrogates are promoting. But I am sick and tired of the desperate remnants of the "YOU GO GIRL" clan climbing on every post and shrieking: LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE - everytime they see something they do not like.

Grow the hell up people, unless most of you (as I suspect) are 16-years-old anyway. Scratch that. Its an insult to 16-year-olds.

You can sit here for the next few days, until Hillary is dragged off the political stage by a hook or embarassment or a combination of both, and post your LIAR LIAR memes, your "Obama is stupid" memes, your "Obama is a Hamas terrorist" memes, the Michelle is a black radical crap.. and all the rest of the disgusting tactics that you find at Free Republic; OR, you can show a bit of maturity. I dare not ask you for respect for the nominee, because your sole agenda is to scream and shout until you are forced off this board when Obama is "declared" the nominee. Until then, you will pollute this board and pollute the Democratic Party with your rancor.

Every single one of you owe Wolsh and everyone else you called a LIAR LIAR -- an apology. ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=5909747&mesg_id=5909747 ) Of course, you can use this thread to once again humiliate yourselves.. and that is the option I assume you will choose.

http://rawstory.com/rawreplay/?p=1024 - Video of Carol Simpson, a must view event

TRANSCRIPT EXCERPT (only one short snip from the 1/2 hour disgusting Clinton Brigade rant)

SIMPSON: Thank you.

I was going to make a comment about the white voters statement that is attributed to Hillary, but I decided I have a better point to make and I want to make it right now. And that is facts are facts, as Lanny talked about with the tracking polls and Hillary's comparison to McCain's numbers, if they were running against each other in a general election.

Do you know what my big fear is, is that Barack Obama is going to win the nomination and during the general election all of those white people that came out to vote for him in the primaries are going to get in that booth and are not going to vote for him, just like Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, when he was running for the governor of California. All the polls said that he was going to win and he lost by a large margin because people...

KING: Yes. What are you saying that America will not elect...

SIMPSON: ...said what was politically correct.

KING: You're saying America will not elect a black man? Is that what you're saying?

SIMPSON: I am fearful of that.
I am fearful that "God damn America" is going to pop into their heads as soon as they get into the polling booth.

MILLER: Sixty million people have voted for Barack Obama, most of them white.

KING: Lanny?

SIMPSON: (INAUDIBLE) primaries.

KING: Lanny...

SIMPSON: Now we're talking about the General.

DAVIS: I disagree with friend, Carole. I think America is ready to elect an African-American. I'm proud of what Barack Obama has accomplished and I'm proud of the way he's energized young people. I think he's benefited by being an African-American in many communities, including myself, who would love to have an African-American as president of the United States. I simply...

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Uh-oh, close to the race card.

DAVIS: I simply say I think that it's -- I'm proud of the fact that we could elect an African-American, Carole. I just don't think that Barack Obama is connecting with working class people. It's not about race. Jimmy Carter lost Reagan Democrats not because he was black, but because he couldn't speak to working class people.

KING: OK.

Congressman Rahm Emanuel says Barack is the presumptive nominee, Hillary can't win but something could happen that may lose Barack the nomination. That's like wishful thinking.

Doesn't it appear to you...

SIMPSON: Well, anything could happen.

KING: Doesn't it appear to you that if it looks like a duck and it acts like a duck and it walks like a duck, it's a duck?

Doesn't it appear to you that this campaign has now become a duck?

(LAUGHTER)

SIMPSON: No, because 40 years of reporting have shown me that anything can happen. Anything can happen.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Oh, your hope...

This rabid division being nurtured by the Clinton camp is as sad as it is dangerous to our collective endeavor which - in case some have forgotten - is kicking the every lovin' crap out of John McCain.

A Clinton surrogate? She was introduced as that? What's her role in the campaign? Is she a press secretary now?

Or is it possible she wasn't described as a Clinton surrogate, but as a Clinton supporter?

will not vote for a black man for President, no matter how qualified he is. There are still racists in this country as well as misogynists in every society.

5. She's a full blown Clinton supporter, what else do they have?
During Senator Clinton’s recent campaign stop at a high school in Salem, New Hampshire to announce her “Agenda for Working Families,” Clinton received an unexpected endorsement from former ABC News Anchorwoman Carole Simpson.

During the question and answer portion of the event, Simpson stood up and stated that she had something to say to the Senator and what better time than to do it now. “I want to tell you tonight, because I happen to be here with my students, that I endorse you for president of the United States. It’s very freeing now that I’m not a journalist and I can speak my mind. I think you are the woman, and I think this is the time,” she eloquently stated. She added that she had a dream that there would be a woman president in her lifetime.

“I am very honored to have Carole Simpson’s endorsement and it was a wonderful surprise to hear during the event,” said Clinton. “I look forward to Carole’s continued support throughout the campaign season.”

last desperate strategy of the Clintons to destroy Obama. Its been an underlying theme all along. Bill is in W Va with HIS whisper campaign, which I've posted about. Hillary had her WHITE VOTE comment played over and over for two days, and now the surrogates are driving home the REAL message. None of this is done without permission.. none of this is accidental.

11. If this is condoned by the Clinton camp, then I'm done with Hillary
I supported Hillary over Obama but I really wanted Biden....OK I REALLY wanted Clark. I thought Obama was a lightweight and would be a weak Pres. I have REALLY changed my mind since last Tuesday, as given the results were I Hillary I would have called it a day and gone for Senate leader and campaign debt pay-off. The results were key. Obama is now acting VERY Presidential so okay maybe he'll live up to the hype!! In the meantime, I'm now puzzled why Hillary continues against her best interests..if this latest tactic is true and I actually heard part of her conference call on the Daily Show, I find that disturbing and I question whether she is the best choice for our country at this time.

Now if Obama picks Clark for second mate, I'm there and will support wholeheartedly!!!!

It's time to move forward.

16. Bradley vs. Deukmejian
Knowing what we know now, and knowing that Ronald Reagan was governor of California for eight years prior, I'm guessing that particular election surprise was delivered by GOP plumbers:

The name Bradley effect is derived from a 1982 campaign involving Tom Bradley, the long-time mayor of Los Angeles, California. Bradley, who was black, ran as the Democratic party's candidate for Governor of California against Republican candidate George Deukmejian, who was white. The polls on the final days before the election consistently showed Bradley with a lead.<4> In fact, based on exit polls on election day, a number of media outlets projected a Bradley win that night; early editions of the next day's San Francisco Chronicle featured a headline proclaiming "BRADLEY WIN PROJECTED". However, Bradley narrowly lost the race. Post-election research indicated that a smaller percentage of white voters actually voted for Bradley than polls had predicted, and that voters who had been classified by those polls as "undecided" had gone to Deukmejian in statistically anomalous numbers.<2>

53. Of one kind or other, sure.
I was in college and remember that election. Bradley was a hugely popular multiple-term mayor of Los Angeles and widely known in the state. He'd been a UCLA basketball star before that and basically had no negatives. Dukemejian was a former state attorney general and had no issue to run on but taxes. At the time election fraud wasn't on the radar and everybody just figured it was a surprise upset, but I've since come to realize that when the pundits have to resort to psychoanalysis to explain election-night anomalies between exit polls and surprise GOP wins, it's a good bet there's been funny business somewhere between the polling booth and the final tally.

24. Ignoring the disgusting racism and sad spectacle of the HRC campaign
pulling a FOX news by dragging out any sympathetic Black person they can find as if people are going to fall for that old trick, I'd like to point out that Bill Clinton didn't win the working class vote in 1996 either.

According to CNN's 1996 exit poll, Bill Clinton lost the white vote (Dole 46%, Clinton 43%, Perot 9%). He lost the white male vote by an even larger margin (Dole 49%, Clinton 38%, Perot 11%). And he lost gun owners badly (Dole 51%, Clinton 38%, Perot 10%). However, Clinton won the popular vote overall 49%-41%-8%, and he won 70% of the electoral votes.

In 2000 -- when Al Gore won the popular vote by half a million votes -- he lost white males to Bush by a whopping 60%-36%, according to CNN's exit poll. He lost men overall 53%-42%. He lost whites overall 54%-42%. He lost gun owners 61%-36%. He lost small-town voters 59%-38% and rural voters 59%-37%. He lost the Midwest overall 49%-48%.

I'm not saying these are goals to aspire to. I'm saying it's a myth that Democrats had Joe Sixpack in their back pockets until that snooty arugula-eater Barack Obama came along, and it's a myth that they suffer crushing defeats when bowlers and boilermaker-drinkers aren't on board.

*****

And while we're talking about voting blocs: Since it's now an article of faith that Barack Obama will lose every voting bloc to Republican John McCain that he lost to fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton by essentially the same margin, shouldn't we extend that rule to Clinton as well? Following that logic, shouldn't we assume that she'll get less than 10% of the black vote against John McCain, just as she does against Obama?

http://nomoremister.blogspot.com/2008/05/white-people-all-important-just.html

Democrats never had that vote so wtf are such idiotic surrogates babbling on about and who do they think they're fooling?

25. What an ignorant assertion by her...
she's interchanging actual primary votes that he's won with exit polls. Sure, some people might not admit they won't vote for him in an exit poll (the Bradley effect) and probably Clinton supporters, but those are NOT the same white people who HAVE voted for him.

If they wouldn't vote for him in a general why in the hell would they in a primary? Racism is not seasonal or part time. What a moron to try to conflate the two. You cannot diminish or explain away the many, many whites WHO have already voted for him Carol!, the same people who will vote for him a SECOND time in November. Some of these people that go on these shows are so called intelligent individuals yet they say the dumbest shit. Psst. The year is 2008, not 1988. Wake the hell up.

Do you know what my big fear is, is that Barack Obama is going to win the nomination and during the general election all of those white people that came out to vote for him in the primaries are going to get in that booth and are not going to vote for him, just like Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, when he was running for the governor of California. and then my post just above yours, it clearly points out what she was doing. She wasn't stating FACT. She was deliberately merging exit polls with primary voters. You can argue it all you'd like, it's not a "crying wolf" thing if it does in fact, keep happening. They continue to push the idea that whitey won't vote for Obama, even in the face of OVERWHELMING proof, whitey is IN FACT voting for Obama. It's disgusting. But you go right ahead and defend that tactic. It's your perogative. :)

I'm sick of them constantly holding him to different standards, and yet when he surpasses even those, they then try to denigrate his victories. I for one, cannot understand why it doesn't absolutely disgust even the most moderate Democrat, unless of course they agree. And if they do, I think they're in the wrong party. I guess some people just can't get over being worried about the Republicans and believing jack shit has changed since 1988. I really do wish they would wake up. The racists are no longer the majority!

49. No one is disputing that racism and misogynism still exist. To claim,
however, that no one who has voted for Obama thus far will do so again because of racism, is highly insulting and somewhat surreal. It's a bald attempt to nullify all of the votes Obama has received thus far from his white supporters and it has no basis in fact. I could claim, with equal validity (i.e., none whatsoever) that none of the men who have voted for Hillary in the primaries would do so again in November because no man would really want a woman for President. Adjust the male/female ratio of voters appropriately and you see what's actually being attempted here: a last-ditch effort to claim "electability" by stripping Obama of most of his votes by saying, "Yes, he got more votes, but the voters didn't really mean it! They'll change their minds, I know they will!"

To reduce either candidate to their gender or their race alone, as Simpson's remarks have done, and claim that that simplification holds true for all Americans, and not a sad minority, does a disservice to the candidates and the electorate.

40. Thanks for pointing that out

I thought it was the same piece and didn't realize I should recommend it again.

It's truly a revolting piece isn't it? The good news is that many HRC supporters agree those comments went too far and have the decency not to defend that racist crap. Thanks for reminding me to recommend it a second time.

I know, I know, you love me too. Believe it or not, I probably would love you in real life and hope these Primaries will officially end soon so we can start focusing on commonalities and hold Obama's feet to the fire.

51. Lanny does a nice job of rewriting history and gets away with it
Edited on Sat May-10-08 01:45 PM by Hansel
Jimmy Carter did not lose to Ronald Reagan because "he couldn't speak to working class people". He lost to Reagan because Iran took our embassy workers hostage and Carter was the victim of fear mongering by the right wing. I believe it was Lee Atwater (Reagan's Karl Rove) who did a pretty good job of running a smear campaign to portray Carter as impotent because he couldn't get the hostages released. As well, Reagan's campaign was happy to mock the mission in which U.S. Marines gave their lives to rescue the hostages just so he could make Carter look weak. Sickening.

There was a lot of flag waving and jingoism surrounding that period and people voted on pseudo patriotism. Just like in 2004.

Of course, one of the reasons that Carter couldn't get the hostages release had to do with the whole Iran Contra affair and something about Bush Sr. working with the Iranians to keep them from releasing the hostages until after the election. But Lanny has conveniently forgotten all about that.

Davis is disingenuous to the hilt or he is just a moron. I give up on which it is.

54. I fit the profile of a Hillary supporter
I am an older (59), white, woman, former New Yorker, who makes $13/hour as a Teacher's Assistant. The only deviation I have from her so called "white working class" supporter is that I have a 2 year college degree.

Maybe it's the education factor which trumps everything else? Or perhaps more significantly, it is the fact that I have lived under her Senate rule? Who knows her better than a New Yorker who voted for her in the past?

But whatever. I will not vote for a woman just because we share the same gender. She has to be the RIGHT woman for the job. I don't feel that Hillary is that woman.

I will cast my vote for Obama. I don't care that he is male, black, or whatever, as long as he is the person best suited for the office of the Presidency.

My daughter and future son-in-law, who still live in NY, will be voting for Obama also. They are both teachers and will never become "rich" in their chosen profession.

My older daughter, also in NY, is a security guard. She certainly would be classified as "white working class". She is also a lesbian. She too is supporting Obama.

It certainly seems that Obama isn't just getting the black vote, now does it?
