Repost from DKos: "Today I stopped calling West Virginia for Obama"
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/5/9/1940/77825

( I found this from a link at wvablue.com )

This afternoon I started calling West Virginia for Barack Obama. I had read "Big Coal" by Jeff Goodell and felt a special empathy for the people of West Virginia and wanted to share with people why I thought they would be best served by an Obama presidency.

Most of the people I called weren't home so I left several messages. I did speak to one woman who was undecided and said she appreciated hearing from me and having a chance to hear what I had to say. She said she was most concerned about the candidates' principles and their faith.

Then came the call that put a wrench into my calling.

8. Do you actually follow any links and read anything?

And if you do, do you read the whole thing, slowly enough to actually comprehend it? Or do you just scan a couple sentences and make assumptions on what the end result was? You seem to me like strictly a knee-jerk reacting one-liner type of guy who doesn't care whether what he says actually follows from the story. It's really kinda sad in a way because you don't even seem to realize that your entire time here is pretty much wasted.

3. Callers like the one that told her story on Kos are EXACTLY
the reason people are going to "vote for the black guy" in the General Election.

I think it was (of all fucking people) Pat Buchanan the other day who said Obama might get 10 MILLION new voters onto the rolls by the GE.

But Hillary says he cannot get white people to vote for him.

5. Agreed. I have total confidence in the 50 state voter drive ...

and complete disdain for Hillary's forecast, whether heartfelt or just politicking.

11. And, it's up to us to get involved
that story is prime example of how one person talking -- reaching out -- to another can change things. Obama knows that, and that's what his grassroots campaign has been about to a large degree.

6. How wonderful to be able
to talk to a stranger on the phone and state your case so eloquently.

What an inspiring story that I had no idea was going to turn out this way.

10. I think Eve did an excellent job in describing Barack's message over her callers concerns
She showed what Barack has been conveying with regards to community service. A helping hand and a genuine concern for our fellow Americans demonstrates what it means to support the Democratic Party. The republicons would never show that kind of concern.

Thanks for posting, beat tk:thumbsup:
