1. You know, the refusal to accept sincere apologies shows a lack of class.
Or something. As does lumping those few who are good enough to apologize for themselves in with the many who aren't.

And it discourages any future apologies and promotes divisiveness.

7. I support FlyingSquirrel in post #1. I'm begging fellow Obama supporters
Edited on Fri May-09-08 04:39 PM by Catherina
not to do this.

There are some very good people in the HRC camp who don't deserve insults or belittling.

Disagreements and sharp words in the heat of the battle are one thing but it's time to start coming together and ferreting out the trolls and agitators on both sides.

There are many HRC supporters here I'm proud to be working with, can we find it in our hearts to apologize to them?

If you can't bring yourself to, I will. I apologize to decent HRC supporters who backed a different candidate for their own reasons that are nobody's business.

My mother, by the way, is one of those people. She's ferociously backing Hillary because when my father came down with a terminal disease, it was Clinton's Family and Medical Leave Act that enabled her to stay by my father's bedside for 2 heart-breaking months. For that she'll overlook every bizarre comment, every war vote. It's her right. I respect it. Please don't do this. There are enough trolls to whack around without antagonizing good people. I sincerely apologize to you if I sound like an old school marm, it's just that it's time to move on.

Thanks.

Edit for typo. I feel like a wet blanket right now. Sorry.

9. You can't apologize after being hateful the whole primary.
It's transparent and self-serving, and I don't care how heartfelt you make it seem, I just won't believe you.

19. You're not one of the decent people I was talking about
Edited on Fri May-09-08 05:26 PM by Catherina
I'm surprised you didn't catch that. There are assholes here and there are decent people. You were consistently an asshole and one if the agitators I think this place would be better off without.

Just because I'm against broad brushes that offend decent people doesn't mean I'm confused about who the decent people are.

I can't believe you confused yourself with "one of the HRC supporters here I'm proud to be working with". I parsed my words carefully.

Sorry but there will never be a time for apologies to assholes, racists or trolls.

Edit. The whole primary? Are you quite sure? This wouldn't be another one of your easily verifiable lies would it?

30. Either you must be confusing me with somebody else or you're not being honest
I don't even post enough to be an agitator, and when I do I try to be fair. I've called out some HRC supporters when they were demonizing BO, I've praised him, and defended Kennedy and Kerry, and I think I was critical of him only once, and not in a major way at that. But you're so quick to charge racism, without evidence or rational which is probably why I wouldn't accept your apology if you were addressing me.

I didn't think you were addressing me, by the way, and I didn't even mean it really as a personal slam, but just as an explanation why some apologies may not be accepted.

Peace, or not.

11. Go look at post #9, and tell me that "bridge-building" with Hillarites is possible.
I'd rather poke fun and watch them get all loopy than try to reason with their delusional, nonsensical ravings.

They better enjoy my apology in this thread, because that's the only one they'll get from me.

15. Any Obama supporter who's been decent doesn't need a bridge
They don't have anything to apologize for. Those that were decent most of the time don't really need to apologize, but if they do, of course it's accepted.

But if you're one of the hateful and jerky ones - save your breath.

23. It's just the broad brushes
I count a few Hillary supporters here as friends and hate seeing them lumped in with assholes like #9. If you could parse your words to make sure it excludes people who were friends before and will be friends again, that would be great. They don't deserve to be broadbrushed because there are trolls here pretending to support HRC.

26. There is exactly ONE Hillary supporter on DU that I admire and respect...
And who has constantly refused to drag down the level of discourse, race bait, and endlessly justify the reprehensible things that Hillary Clinton does and says, and that is bigtree.

If you know of any others, I'm all ears.

28. I know several others. They've been mostly quiet
Edited on Fri May-09-08 05:42 PM by Catherina
Some of them are nursing some very sad feelings right now because they're not too keen on the increasingly racist coments during the death throes. I feel for them, I really do.

There are others who were pretty vocal but tried hard not to be personal.

Read post number 3 in this thread. That's one of the many quieter HRC supporters who's decent and shouldn't be broadbrushed.

There are also people like Marrah_G who've been here a long time and mostly got into arguments over sexism but remained level-headed opponents. Bigtree for sure. Two days ago, I started paying attention to all the HRC supporters who were wanting peace but it's at home. I plan to keep adding names to it to remind myself that the loud assholes and representatives from Operation Chaos aren't the majority of her supporters. Flying Squirrel had a good thread yesterday too.

I'm with Donna Brazile on this one. Let the assholes jump on McCain's bus and the quicker the better. The majority of us were ok before and will be ok again once we stomp out Operation Chaos.

Well, it is the end. Over. Finis. Kaput.

Tell Her Royal Clintonness that, would you?

When she drops out, her supporters will either get banned or get behind Obama, and there'll be no need for threads like these.

27. Because I think its likely that I'll have solace on November 5th
other than to look at some of the behavior here and remember that they'll be suffering along with everybody else in the states.

Hopefully, I'll be able to just delete that folder- but based on how I see the maps at the moment, I'm not optimistic that's going to be the case.

(same would likely hold true for Hillary, btw).

Edited on Fri May-09-08 10:39 PM by depakid
but what one "wants" and what one considers unfortunately all too likely are 2 different things.

And yep, in that messed up event I will take some slight solace where I can- and that will be as I said, in the understanding that some of the petulant, freepish behaviors and shallow, manichean thinking have been duly rewarded.

I also guarantee you that people who are treated like some have been here feel the very same way IRL in similar situations. Nothing "superior" about that- just human nature. As most grown ups understand.
