anyone dumb enough to believe that Hillary quote?
Edited on Thu May-01-08 05:23 PM by Enrique
I find it laughable that people are trying to get people to believe that Hillary meant "rich people deserve all the opportunities."

It's hard to imagine that any politician would say something so bizarre.

So when people were faced with the claim that she said that, did anyone fall for it?

edit: changed "Hillary said" to "Hillary meant".

Guess BHO did not quite have his new pander story memorized! I am sure it went better today.

……Barack Obama was showing signs of campaign fatigue. Sitting on a picnic bench in a park on Pagoda Street, Indianapolis, in discussion with a group of 30 supporters, he told a story about the "modest" background of himself and his wife, Michelle.

And 10 minutes later, seemingly having forgotten, he told them it all again.

It's all over DU and it's not altered.

I know it's taken out of context but then she did say "Rich people. God bless us". It's hard to take that out of context no matter how you look at it.

It was a bad statement that reeked of elitism. I would like to say that I'm amazed that the MSM hasn't run with this but then I saw Dean taken down for a scream that never was.

61. I have not seen much about the Clintons tearing him down.
But I knew they never supported him really. No one in the leadership did. He won on his own merits by doing the same thing he did to get where he got in the Presidential race.

As for Senator Clinton ripping into Senator Obama. Politics and pretty tame at that-Anyone who has read the history of 19th century presidential campaigns knows it.

4. She did say it, but context is important
The quote sounded pretty out of touch, but I am told that the next sentence was something about how rich people should pay more in taxes, which would obviously change the meaning. Probably just poor wording. Then again, we all remember how willing Clinton and her supporters were to recognize a valid point worded poorly. Oh, that's right...

Obama said probably just poor wording - he should have said 'angry' instead of bitter' - look what they did to him on that one. He became an elitist. So this ranks right up there for HRC.

33. Why just this morning I was told "context doesn't matter"
It doesn't matter that when Obama said he would not forsake Muslims, he was saying he would not forsake them should the tide turn against them as it did the Japanese during WWII because context doesn't matter.

I don't believe in payback, but I am dying to have someone argue context doesn't matter again.

5. What was the quote in its entirety?
I'm guessing there is more to it than that.

Regardless, even though I do believe those that work hard (as opposed to being a CEO of a corp who rakes in multi-million dollar bonuses for transferring jobs overseas) do deserve to benefit from their hard work, it's not something that would go down well with the vast majority of Americans. Especially during these economic times.

11. rich people deserve all the opportunities to pass on their good fortune to the next generation
in context, she was arguing on Fox News that rich people such as her and O'Reilly should pay more taxes.

I find it extremely sad that any so-called liberal might try to twist this fine articulation of liberal values, especially in such a stupid way.

At least she didn't say that on the video I posted. She said something about rich people being able to pass on their riches to the next generation, but I don't interpret that as being done through paying taxes. If that is what she meant then she was very obscure saying it that way.

40. do you consider yourself a liberal?
I'll assume the answer is yes.

So, my question to you is... Hillary Clinton articulated an important liberal principle last night, that rich people should pay more taxes.

She did this to a Fox News audience that normally hears the opposite on their channel, night in and night out, without challenge. Now a prominent Democrat comes on and takes on their guy O'Reilly on this core question.

So my question to you is, while Hillary is doing that, what are you as a liberal doing, playing games?
