In the last 36 hours a "major" Hillary endorser used a homophobic slur and...
Edited on Wed Apr-30-08 07:46 PM by Wolsh
...Hillary invoked Ronald Reagan while appearing on fox news. The few (but loud) Hillary supporter(s) on this board don't even bat an eye, although they attempted to crucify Obama over the same actions.

Its not the Rovian politics that bothers me as much as its the blatant hypocrisy.

able to get people from the other side of the aisle to vote against their interests. He said he strongly disagreed with Reagan's policies because he had first hand knowledge of the fruit of those policies. Nice try though.

and gay rights we get flamed.

Now you want to compare black image/slurs with gay slurs.

This is about the word pansy. Stay on topic, and you can't have it both ways.

Generally, and with the gay gang I hang around with, pansy was pretty funny, even when we saw it in the cartoon.

I know and love people who support Clinton... some support Obama... and a few even support McCain...

Thankfully I'm smart enough to know NOT to shit on them.

You guys are going to share this board after the GE, right? If not, you're a troll anyway, but that's beside the point.

I don't know how any of you can shit all over your fellow Democrats like this. I really don't get it.

Good thing I'm developing a strong dislike of both Clinton and Obama... they are running neck and neck with McCain in my book... I'm sick of the lot of them. A better thing is that I know enough about life to realize this hatred y'all are spewing is a short term deal and you may need the backing of your fellow Democrats someday... I'll still have it.

19. Pansy is not an Anti-Gay term, period, I don't care what you say
I know for a fact, from hearing the word, mostly as a child and teenager, that the word pansy is not an anti-gay slur. It's a putdown universal to all young boys. It has nothing to do with gays. There are PLENTY of anti-gay slurs out there, now pansy is one? I don't understand the logic. BTW, I'm not even a Hillary supporter and I think this is stupid.

60. Merriam-Webster disagrees with you
Let's see.... Merriam-Webster's dictionary

Merriam-Webster is America's foremost publisher of language-related reference works. The company publishes a diverse array of print and electronic products, including Merriam-Webster's Collegiate® Dictionary, Eleventh Edition—America's best-selling desk dictionary—and Webster's Third New International Dictionary, Unabridged.

Does Merriam-Webster have any connection to Noah Webster?
Merriam-Webster can be considered the direct lexicographical heir of Noah Webster. In 1843, the company bought the rights to the 1841 edition of Webster's magnum opus, An American Dictionary of the English Language, Corrected and Enlarged. At the same time, they secured the rights to create revised editions of the work. Since that time, Merriam-Webster editors have carried forward Noah Webster's work, creating some of the most widely used and respected dictionaries and reference books in the world. For more information, see Noah Webster and America's First Dictionary and From Noah Webster to Merriam-Webster: A Timeline.

When was Merriam-Webster founded?
In 1831, brothers George and Charles Merriam opened a printing and bookselling operation in Springfield, Massachusetts which they named G. & C. Merriam Co. The company, which was renamed Merriam-Webster, Incorporated, in 1982, has been in continuous operation since that time. For more information on the history of Merriam-Webster, see Merriam-Webster Continues Noah Webster's Legacy and Merriam-Webster's Ongoing Commitment.

How long has Merriam-Webster been publishing dictionaries?
The first Merriam-Webster dictionary was issued on September 24, 1847. It cost $6.00 per copy and earned the praise of such notable figures as President James K. Polk and General Zachary Taylor.

I am so sick of hearing people accusing him of using a homophobic slur. My community has more things to worry about than the Governor calling a straight man a pansy. 42. Statements from GLAAD and the HRC
"GLAAD is concerned with Gov. Easley's flippant comment this morning utilizing the word "pansy,‘" said GLAAD President Neil G. Giuliano. "The word is considered by many to be a demeaning and degrading reference to gay men. We encourage all those engaging in political rhetoric to stay away from using language that is considered defamatory toward any group of Americans."

link

We checked with the Washington headquarters of the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's premier group promoting gay rights, and it already had a statement in the works.

Trevor Thomas, the group's deputy communications director, sent out this e-mail a few minutes later: "We certainly wish the governor would have chosen his words better and have expressed our disappointment to his staff."

58. I am gay.
I am getting sick and tired having straight people telling me when to be offended.

59. Who cares what you think. Every minority has people willing to throw their own under the bus for
some expediency. I have no respect for such people.

61. Many gay people don't see pansy as a gay slur.
I know what a gay slur is when you are called faggot every day in school you pick up these things.

44. I would not use that pansy word to describe a person, a flower, sure.
However, I am old enough to remember the day when "pansy" had nothing to do with sexual orientation. AT ALL. In fact, you hear the word on old Leave It to Beaver episodes.

What it meant, way back in the old days, was "weakling."

In context of the endorsement, calling Senator Clinton "not a male homosexual" just doesn't make sense.

I think it was a poor choice of word, but I think he was going for the old-time "weakling" definition.

53. Let's be fair, Obama never invoked Ronald Reagan. He said that Reagan transformed .................
the face of politics in this country, which he did. He put together the three legs of the rethug party and convinced millions he was responsible for doing great things, even though he wasn't.

The one thing I will always give Reagan credit for is selling bullshit to the American people at a premium price and finding enough people dumb enough to fork over their value system for steaming pile of shit. He managed to sell the idea that deregulation of corporate America is a good thing, and Bill Clinton bought into it and kept selling it.

Bill's policies, more deregulation and NAFTA, are finally coming to fruition and many Democrats are now having buyers remorse over the Clinton years. They had a nice short-term effect, but no one bothered to see what the long-term ramifications would be. Bill's SC appointees have done nothing to protect working class Americans, in fact that have done more harm to labor relations than any rethug could have hoped to do. I just wonder how long it will take the other half of the Democratic party to wake up and see the truth.
