Family Members Voting for Hillary Tomorrow - Because They Want Bill Back.
Edited on Mon Apr-21-08 12:43 PM by sparosnare
I've posted a lot about my rural PA parents who have registered as Democrats for the first time in their lives and are voting for Obama tomorrow. (yea!)

I have not posted about my mom's family who are and have been faithful Democrats for generations. I was mystified to hear that the majority of them are voting for Hillary - not because they think she is the best choice to run this country - but because they love Bill Clinton and want him back in the White House.

This reason for voting for Hillary has gotten little attention from the media and if Obama had wanted to, he could have exploited it.

I realized when my uncle stated "I don't care much for Hillary, but if she's elected, Bill will be back in office and she will do everything he says" that I was dealing with a sexist statement. He is assuming Hillary will not make her own decisions but will do whatever her husband tells her to do. However I have to say Clinton's campaign has fed into this notion as she has used Bill and his accomplishments to her advantage at every turn. She has done little in the way of executive decisions over the past 35 years of her 'experience'.

I know this question has been posed many times, but where would Hillary be without Bill? Without his name and his legacy to fall back on, would she be so close to becoming president?

Some members of my family wouldn't even give her the consideration of a vote otherwise.

I will make one last phone call this evening, then be done with it.

3. How sad, but I imagine she gets quite a few votes that way
They want Bill not her.

4. I wonder why it hasn't been discussed more?
It is a huge factor in her voting block.

5. It is their free right to vote as they wish. You need to burn more of Obama's speches to dvd and
then let them see Obama unedited they will have a new view.

6. Check out today's Post-Gazette - they list Bill's events
as if he was the candidate. Where is the list of Obama's other speakers? Surely there are others stumping for him in PA today. Maybe the Obama campaign didn't send in that info

My point is, I believe people will vote for Hillary because of Bill - not because of her own candidacy.

7. Bill has spent the entire month in PA giving speeches.
It's amazing Obama is doing as well as he is since he's running against both Clintons.

Thanks for the link. :hi:

8. It is amazing! He's done it from the beginning
Hope you're doing well today :hi: It's 65 F., but cloudy. The daffodils are blooming and some tulips are ready to bloom (if the deer don't eat them).

9. I am! Are you excited for tomorrow?
I still have a few phone calls to make to family tonight; send some emails out today....wish I was there! My mom said the trees are starting to bud; she gets excited for this time of year.

Do you mind if I ask your prediction?

13. I hope I can sleep tonight!
:-). I'm working at the local polling place - it's a little, red, one-room schoolhouse. No kidding :-). I'll take a pic and post it, if I remember to bring the camera.

I think the final numbers will be very close. I hope Obama can pull the upset. It's hard to figure for me, because we are 100 miles away from the Pgh. area. We do receive the Pgh. channels on TV though. Obama is pulling huge crowds in W. PA!! My prediction is Obama 51 Clinton 49. I hope I am right.

Sounds like your Mom is at about the same level of Spring as we are. Pittsburgh is about a week ahead. We were down at my Mom's (Monroeville) last week and all the forsythia is in bloom. Not here - not yet. It sure is pretty to finally see some color around here :-).

15. Please do post a pic. I am inclined to believe Obama can pull the upset.
I think it will be too close to call all night and we'll know he won on Wednesday. I can't help but think the polls and pundits are underestimating the impact of 400K new Democratic voters.

It's almost time for my Dad to start on his garden; once the threat of last freeze has passed. Living here in Texas is so different; supposed to by 90 today!

Good luck tomorrow!! :hi: :kick:

14. Bill is the reason for her massive support in PA
They just view HRC as a ploy for a 3rd Bill Clinton term. Talk about sexism!

16. It's true. If she were running on her own merit with an unknown name, forget it.
I will vote for a woman for president when she does it herself.
