Rasmussen: Obama's Biggest Lead Since FORMER Pastor Became News (48-42)
Edited on Sat Mar-29-08 10:39 AM by kpete
Daily Presidential Tracking Poll
Saturday, March 29, 2008

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows Barack Obama with a six-point lead over Hillary Clinton in the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. It’s Obama 48% Clinton 42%. This is Obama’s biggest lead since stories of his former Pastor became big news.

Just before the Pastor story broke, Obama had an eight-point advantage over Clinton. His numbers fell dramatically for a few days until the Illinois Senator gave a much publicized speech on race and national unity. Following that speech, Obama’s numbers stabilized and he remained essentially even with Clinton for the past two weeks. With Obama gaining back his lead, it appears that the story about Pastor Wright may not have a lasting impact in the contest for the Democratic nomination. Or, at the very least, that the impact was negated by the furor over Clinton’s recent comments on Bosnia.

Looking ahead to the General Election in November, John McCain now enjoys a bigger lead when matched against Hillary Clinton rather than Barack Obama. McCain leads Barack Obama 48% to 43% and leads Hillary Clinton 51% to 40% (see recent daily results). McCain is now viewed favorably by 53% of voters nationwide and unfavorably by 44%. Obama’s reviews are 50% favorable and 48% unfavorable. For Clinton, those numbers are 42% favorable, 56% unfavorable (see recent daily results). Today is the first time Obama’s favorables have returned to the 50% level since his former Pastor became news.

4. We need to start going after McCain. If people knew what that guy was really about
there's no way he'd be ahead in the polls. He's a Bush neocon warmonger, a member of the infamous Keating Five, a newly minted supporter of tax cuts for the rich, a friend to lobbyists, an economic moron, and a confused old man when it comes to foreign policy. I could go on, but it would be nice to see just these issues being covered over and over again by the media. Teflon John needs to have the heat turned up on HIS record.

13. She's having a rough week. Don't rub it in
We got upset last week when the Clinton folks were rubbing all these polls in our face in the middle of the Wright controversy and using them as "proof" that he was unelectable and needs to drop out. Let's not stoop to that level. She's having a rough week and it's expected that her polls will dip a little. Let's celebrate the fact that Obama seems to be bouncing back, but we don't need to be obnoxious and rub these polls in Clinton supporters' faces.

26. A couple days behind doesn't mean Hillary is in free fall
Let's see if there is a trend that continues. If we have a few days with the largest gap in the race, with that gap widening, then that's a more appropriate time to declare "free fall."

34. Exactly. That's what I was saying last week when the tables were turned
And it looks like Obama has managed to turn things around, at least in the primary. I am still worried about Wright killing his chances in the general though.

11. that's what I was saying when it first broke on the NBC poll
(that Obama was going up and The Pastor thing was fading) I was saying that it didn't even factor Snipergate in yet and that we'd have to wait for the weekend to see the affect-(or is it effect?)

10. Proof that Obama is the true heir to Teflon Bill
It's Hillary who's running on her husband's name, but it's Barack who appears more like Bill as he was in 1992 - young(ish), inspirational and with a nice thick coating of Teflon.

31. Scarborough is a hoot.
On his own show, he was talking about his network's poll and touting the fact that although Obama seems stronger against McCain, and has much higher favorabiity ratings, he said "Obama hasn't closed the deal with Democrats" since he and Hillary were tied at 49 or 47 or something like that.

Chuck Todd came on in the next segment, and explained to him, rather patiently, that the favorability ratings were among all voters, and the "matchup" numbers were among registered Democrats only. Scarborough corrected himself and thanked Chucky T for the info.

Hours later, on David Gregory's show, that very same day, there was Joe Scarborough citing the same bullshit poll argument and again making his case that "Obama can't close the deal with Democrats." At that moment, he certainly knew he was spewing a completely debunked argument!

21. In the Clinton Bizarro World, good news for Obama is really bad news.
Obama poll gains actually mean he is getting further behind. Superdelegates who declare for Obama are really helping Clinton. Once you understand this kind of thinking everything become clear.

33. I'm one: Regardless how you *feel* about HRC, all DUers are our brothers and sisters...
in this community, in this country, in this world. Remember, this is a liberal, progressive community, and tolerance is most definitely a liberal concept. We are all being asked to stop the personal attacks, the sly innuendo, the sarcastic jabs... you know, the shit we all put out or received when we were adolescents in school before any of us knew better.

Anyone who disagrees with Clinton or Obama's positions, policies, proclamations, whatever, is of course entitled to express how they feel. But we can all post opinions without sullying ourselves or anyone else. We can tolerate negative opinion without having to strike back in kind. None of us need attack the other in a negative way, nor do we need attack the candidates. Civil discourse is not just a phrase.

Obama's message is one of change. If we, as Obama supporters, don't become the change we wish to see (all credit to Ghandi) then how can anything really change?

Food for thought is all.

Peace out. :hi:

32. IN N.C, Public Policy Polling has Obama up 11% in one week, HRC down 11% in one week: Now 55-34%
Obama leads by 21 points in NC according to this 3/24 PPP poll -- nice :bounce:

Public Policy Polling
Date: 3/24
North Carolina
Added: 3/26/08
Est. MoE = 3.8%

Barack Obama 55%
Hillary Clinton 34%

Unsure 11%

Just one week earlier, HRC had cute Obama's lead to just one point:

Public Policy Polling
Date: 3/17
North Carolina
Added: 3/20/08
Est. MoE = 4.3%

Barack Obama 44%
Hillary Clinton 43%

Unsure 13%

And the week before the Wright controversy, Obama was up by only 4 points:

Public Policy Polling
Date: 3/3
North Carolina
Added: 3/7/08
Est. MoE = 4.3%

Barack Obama 47%
Hillary Clinton 43%

Unsure 10%

What a cheap win by a cheap man. I consider Obama to be a very bad person and I won't vote for him.

37. What in the world are you talking about?
Didn't Hillary herself state that she "misspoke"? Yes, she did.

She blamed it on lack of sleep which didn't explain the three previous times she misspoke with the same story.

That's all on Hillary. Obama had almost nothing to do with it.

PS - I don't think the Bosnia stuff is why her numbers are falling.
