3 words about McCain as VP: "Hell fucking NO!"
The day this party picks an actual Republican to run on the ticket is the day I leave the party. We don't NEED no stinkin' Republicans on our ticket!

6. Are you so certain that they are actually Democrats?
Edited on Mon May-17-04 07:40 PM by boxster
I suspect that not all who are backing this theory are what they claim to be, especially on DU.

And, yes, I realize that Democratic Congresspeople, etc., are spouting the same crap, but I think that it's fully possible that they are trying to show that Kerry would bridge the political chasm that currently exists, knowing full well that McCain isn't really an option.

Show unity with a suggestion that you are certain will never happen. It's a rather covert method of pandering to the crossover and independent voters.

Edit: typo

2. Just ignore 'em.
You know it's never going to happen, so why bother arguing about it or getting upset about it? Posting yet another thread about it will only instigate those who are pushing the theory in the first place.

Let it die and ignore the threads. It's meaningless to talk about and pointless to argue with anyone who doesn't understand why the concept of McCain as VP is ludicrous.

4. Giving a Republican the VP Spot
will end Democracy. No longer will there be a two party system. Fascism is so close to becoming a permanent reality in this country. If Bush gets re-elected, you can count on the skin heads multiplying and harrassing people in the streets in broad day-light.

7. I've said it before
and I'll say it every time I see a post like this...if McCain were on the ticket and Kerry won and then something happened to Kerry we'd have a republican president!! Nuff said.

14. Out of principle you just don't stick a Republican on the ticket...
With the exception of Zell Miller, I would stick the most right wing democrat on the ticket over a Republican even one as liberal as Lincoln Chafee.

15. Dream ticket
Actually, my dream-never-going-to-ever-happen-ever-EVER ticket would be Wes Clark and John McCain.

Of course, I think both like the idea of mandatory military service so that would be a real loser in the long run.

16. Is it really that much to ask
I mean give me a freaking break. Single payer health care is asking too much, Opposing the Iraq War strongly isn't advisable, Flat out supporting GLBT rights isn't gonna cut it, fine. I get in line and I vote for Kerry even though these things are important to me but for gods sake am I asking too much not to have to actually vote for a Repub (an honorable man but a Repub on all positions) when I vote for the Dem nominee... Hopefully this is all hogwash and won't amount to much in reality.

18. A few words about McCain as VP
The talk is meant to get some media attention for Kerry. Evey time the media reports on this, they mention McCain's military background, and follow it with a reference to Kerry's military service. It makes Kerry look more qualified to lead the War on Terrorism, more moderate and bipartisan, and another mention of Kerry as "a highly decorated officer whoserved in VietNam" doesn't hurt.

22. Bingo
Glad someone else sees it for what it is: a pretty smart campaign tactic :toast:

McCain is NOT an option for VP.

Having it be a talking point, however, is brilliant.

26. EXACTLY!
Look, don't get me wrong. I can see where this idea of McCain being VP comes from. McCain is a good guy, unlike most of his party, and would make a much better president than Bush. But the fact is that he still belongs to the party that we are trying to beat. He also has no intention of changing parties. As much as he disagrees with his party at times, he is still loyal to them.

27. YES! It's an incredibly STUPID idea!
McCain would destroy Kerry's chances because he's a REPUG, period. This whole McCain for VP campaign is either based on delusion or subversion.
