Hillary Clinton: Truth or Consequences

http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/03/26/hillary-clinton-truth-or-consequences/#more-470

- Carl Bernstein, Anderson Cooper 360° Contributor

Hillary Clinton has many admirable qualities, but candor and openness and transparency and a commitment to well-established fact have not been notable among them. The indisputable elements of her Bosnian adventure affirm (again) the reluctant conclusion I reached in the final chapter of A Woman In Charge, my biography of her published last June:
Hillary Clinton

“Since her Arkansas years , Hillary Rodham Clinton has always had a difficult relationship with the truth… udged against the facts, she has often chosen to obfuscate, omit, and avoid. It is an understatement by now that she has been known to apprehend truths about herself and the events of her life that others do not exactly share. ”

As I noted:

“Almost always, something holds her back from telling the whole story, as if she doesn’t trust the reader, listener, friend, interviewer, constituent—or perhaps herself—to understand the true significance of events…”

The Bosnian episode is a watershed event, because it indelibly brings to mind so many examples of this tendency– from the White House years and, worse, from Hillary Clinton’s take-no-prisoners presidential campaign. Her record as a public person is replete with “misstatements” and elisions and retracted and redacted and revoked assertions…

1. Definitely worth reading. HC has a real problem with telling the truth.

2. How many words -- how many threads -- how many stories have been devoted to this?
At most. this whole deal amounts to an exaggeration of the danger HRC said she faced when she went to Bosnia. (Overlooking the fact that she DID go there on her own as a personal gesture of supporting the troops. Also, I betcha every soldier on the base where she was was drawing combat pay.

It is a tempest in a teapo,t but because it is one of the very, very, very few times someone can quote Hillary's words and prove them untrue, it has become the biggest story since OJ.

Hillary-haters in the press and in the Obama campaign (who are sometimes the very same people) are doing all they can to keep this story alive. But at the very same time, Obama supporters WITHIN the MSM are doing all they can to squelch the Jeremiah Wright story -- going so far as to walk off programs or to protest to their collegues on the air that they were affording the Wright story too much air time.

Heard anybody say that about Hillary's sniper story yet? -- Even though it is much less important?

The emporer is naked and Hillary Clinton is not a liar.

Some of us see things the way they really are.

Are you stuck in the early 90's with Hillary? Haven't you people realized yet that this is the digital age? All of those "misspeaks" (the new media code word for LIES) are archived and accessible to the public these days.

Let's flashback to her Sir Edmund Hillary story over a decade ago. Even after she was confronted with the fact that the man didn't even climb the mountain until she was six years old, she CONTINUED repeatedly to tell some made up story about being named after the man who first climbed Mt. Everest.

Flip on your TV. Go to your favorite news site. Watch the videos being spread around. Her history of embellishing and lying her ass off is permanently etched in ink and on film.

I know too many Bush supporters that uttered your last line in 2000 and 2004.

NOT THIS TIME.

*edit spelling.
