Zell says Kerry's a "National Security Threat"
Geezus, I'm not Kerry's biggest fan by any means, but this senile old bastard really shouldn't skip his medication......

In the most scathing attack yet against Sen. John Kerry delivered by one of his peers, Sen. Zell Miller warned yesterday that the likely Democratic presidential nominee would be a threat to U.S. national security if elected.

Reacting to claims by Kerry ally Sen. Ted Kennedy that "Saddam's torture chambers have reopened under U.S. management," Miller told radio host Sean Hannity:dunce:

"Those twin senators from Massachusetts are the co-chairmen of the Handwringers of America - the HWA. And they continued to bash this country.

"Both of them," Miller said, "voted against every major weapons system that won the Cold War. And Senator Kerry has made it very clear that his national security policy is to vacillate and retreat and hand over the leadership to the United Nations."

The Georgia Democrat :eyes: warned that the prospect of Kerry's election posed such a serious threat to U.S. national security that it could ultimately cost the U.S. its freedom.

Edited on Fri May-14-04 05:50 PM by elperromagico
to the maniac we now see splayed before us in every conservative rag on earth?

Has he been bought off? Or are his disagreements legitimate? I think the Kerry campaign has pointed out his praise for Kerry in the past - why has Zell changed so very much? Surely Bush is not this inspiring to him!

13. I observed the same thing with one friend and one relative.
Their thinking just seemed to get so right-wing and they were so "black and white" about their thinking. It was a noticeable difference form their previous behavior.

Within 2 years both had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

I've never seen anything in medical reports about a connection but it makes sense that when otherwise wide-ranging thinkers become narrow and judgmental, something is going on.

If you don't want to arrest someone who is a 'national security threat' then clearly, you yourself are a threat to national security, because you are soft on terrorists.

I truly can't believe that shithead. No one pisses me off more than a fake traitor. Zell was never a Democrat. The only reason he posed as one was because it was the only way to get elected. He's a fake.

He'd lose in Connecticut if he did, and in a number of ways, he is a good Democrat. He's a flaming asshole in many ways, of course, but his liberal rating overall is fairly high.

Zell could switch parties and cause hardly a ripple in GA.

Senator Daschle, why has this embarrassment to the Democrat Party not been tossed out of the Party on his ear yet? I ask you since you are our leader and both my Senators are Republicans and they can do nothing about what is OUR problem. I am sure that you will have the backing of all rational Democrats if you would remove him from the Party, the Caucus and/or publicly admonish him. Please do something about this loose cannon.

24. If you look at it from the "other" side. . .
I know that the Republicans thought that Jeffords was a traitor. But at least he had the FREAKIN' BALLS to change parties. He put up with the shit storm, he had to lay it on the line, he had to deal with the publicity, which was even WORSE because his defection cost the Republicans the Senate.

We on the left acclaim John McCain when he doesn't tow the party line. We love a maverick, so why don't we love Zell, if we think he's really speaking his conscience?

Why? Because he's a coward. Forget senile - he's a coward.

McCain criticizes, but he does so honestly, and never pretends to be anything less than a loyal supporter. Issues, yes, he'll speak out -but he won't hurt his own party. Miller is so chicken-shit that he can't even face the fact that he is no longer a member of the Party that supported and helped to elected him.

I don't care what side of the aisle you are on, I respect any man/woman who will speak honestly and if they can't do it from within their own party, they leave and FACE the consequences, instead of blaming them what brought you to the dance in the first place.

eileen from OH

Like Zell Miller would know anything about security...this has me really angry. Pathetic thing to say!!!

"Both of them," Miller said, "voted against every major weapons system that won the Cold War. And Senator Kerry has made it very clear that his national security policy is to vacillate and retreat and hand over the leadership to the United Nations."

In the eighties conservatives claimed that communism would ultimately bring down the Soviet Union. They argued that Communism was by its very nature repressive and self-destructive, but unrestrained Capitalism was destined to succeed. They claimed that the death of Communism would be a victory for freedom and capitalism. And they claimed that our objective was to stop oppressive, military dictatorships from spreading across the world.

But less than twenty years later this story has changed. They now say it was deficit spending on WMD, Big Government, and obedient citizens that defeated the Soviet Union. If you ask them whether Communism brought down the U.S.S.R they act shocked and announce that without the Godlike guidance of Reagan and Bush, Communism would now dominant the world. Are they attempting to prove that Communism is better than Capitalism or that massive government spending stopped the Cold War? Most interesting is how they can defend the use of our tax dollars to fund oppression in the name of morality and Patriotism. Twenty years ago the neocons revived their feeble movement on the principle of questioning any need for Big Government. Today that movement is centered on never questioning the Government and labeling any who do so as "a serious threat to U.S. national security."

57. As I remember it, it wasn't just Democrats but Democracy itself ...

that ZM is having trouble with nowadays:

Zell Miller: Voters should not choose senators
April 28, 2004
Miller's maverick tendencies as a U.S. senator reached an all-time high Wednesday when he proposed eliminating the U.S. Constitution's 17th Amendment and going back to the days when senators were appointed by legislatures rather than elected by voters.

Of course, if he hadn't been APPOINTED in the first place, he might never have been elected, so this might make sense from his point of view.
