Kerry/McCain in November
As a 24 year old former Marine and proud Irish-American Kerry supporter, I want to say that I hope John Kerry chooses John McCain as his running mate. I will support Kerry no matter what (since Bush is a "war dodging" coward, and an idiot) but JohnMcCain would be a great addition to the Kerry ticket. McCain is especially big with Idependents, who will be crucial in this election. All the people who are still pisses at what Bush did to McCain in 2000, will come out to support a Kerry/McCain presidency. Of course the fact that John McCain is about 100x more competent and more courageous then Dick "Pork Chop Boy" Cheney...goes without saying.

He supports Bush.

Why get a candidate who openly talks up the idiot?

5. UGH! just what we need--a Republican on the ticket
...this has been hashed thoroughly here on DU. If McCain is so great, why does he insist on staying a Republican?

No thanks. With all the fine Democrats there are to choose from, we don't need no farkin Repuke on our ticket.

I would be hard pressed to find another republican in history that I like more!! This coming from me, the person who swore off republicans like the plague after I gave up my religion!! Surprisingly enough i have several repug friends who don't not hold John McCain in the high esteem that I do!! Strange world!! Just goes to show you that repugs are weird and don't know a good thing when it hits them square in the face!!

that we have to run a Republican on our ticket? I think I'll pass.

Please tell me what you dislike about the other VP candidates who's names have been floated?

11. So Kerry should pick someone who's endorsed Bush?
I like McCain as a man. Wish the Repubs had the cojones to nominate a real principled conservative like McCain. However, I have no interest in a VERY conservative Bush supporter on the ticket.

Why not go with a Democrat? Want a vet? Wesley Clark, Ben Nelson, Max Cleland...I'm sure there are others.

14. First of all, Kerry isn't Irish. Secondly, after just listening to McCain
Edited on Mon May-10-04 05:32 PM by Hornito
on the Hannity show, where he belittled liberals, and plotted with Hannity on how to "smooth over" the current prisoner crisis, so as to maintain support for the war in Iraq, McCain can kiss my ass, and so can anyone who supports him (and I am a former McCain supporter from AZ).

And interestingly, McCain was talking about enlisting Evan Bayh, Joe Lieberman, and Zell Miller, to help him derail "liberals'" attempts to turn the prisoner abuse debacle into a political issue. Nice to know, that Republican McCain can count on these good Democrats to subvert our nation, and give support to the criminal Bush administration. *uck him.

So sorry, a Kerry/McCain ticket is a non starter, and shouldn't be for any real Democrat or progressive.

19. I do not believe you!
McCain asked the TOUGHEST questions of Rumsfeld at the hearings.

His questions made the news; none of the Dems were as tough.

Joe Lieberman made an ass of himself defending the Admicistration.

And finally, McCain blasted Lieberman yesterday for trying to protect the administration.

And finally, McCain will not be on the ticket.

Saw Kerry last week mention McCain, & he laughed & said he likes to mention McCain because it drives Karl Rove NUTS.

McCain & Kerry are friends & they like to give grief to Bush & Rove, but they will not run together. Their positions are too far apart.

with Hannity. If Hannity has a transcript posted, look for yourself. As you pointed out, as mad as McCain was at the hearings, to hear the crap he was spouting on Hannity really showed me what a two-faced bastard he is. Sorry, but that's the truth.

The man is heading the Bush campaign in his state. He is working to KEEP Bush in office and Kerry OUT. This notion has no basis in the real world, it goes without saying.

Edited on Mon May-10-04 05:47 PM by elperromagico
First: McCain is a Republican. He has endorsed George W. Bush* for President, and is the co-chairman of Bush*'s "re"election campaign in Arizona. Friends with Kerry he may well be, but that doesn't change the fact that he is working (however grudgingly) for Kerry's opponent.

Second: The last time members of two different parties joined together on a "unity" ticket was in 1864, when Democrat Andrew Johnson was tapped as Republican Abraham Lincoln's running mate. Of course, the ticket won. But a little more than a month after Lincoln and Johnson's inauguration, Lincoln was assassinated. Johnson, an unrepentant racist, was unwilling to push Lincoln's Reconstruction programs through Congress - and lacked the gravitas to do so at any rate. He became so unpopular with Congress that they impeached him, and came within one vote of casting him out of the Presidency altogether.

Third: Have we forgotten what the Republican Congress was willing to do to get rid of Clinton? They tried to remove him from office as well, even though it meant that Al Gore would become President. Imagine for a moment what would happen if John Kerry were President, and the next in line were an anti-choice, conservative Republican. Kerry's life, let alone his Presidency, wouldn't be worth two cents.

Is that a risk we're willing to take in order to pick up Arizona? McCain may be an honorable man (considering how he let Bush* beat up on him in South Carolina, yet is still campaigning for Bush*, I'm not so sure he is), but there are plenty of honorable men and women within the Democratic Party. Some of them ran for the Democratic nomination earlier this year. Let's not turn to the GOP for our candidates. It's a mistake I'm sure we will regret.

No McCain has endorsed Bush, so we can forget about him.

quote:

"And finally, McCain blasted Lieberman yesterday for trying to protect the administration."

I'd like to read about that if you have a link, or maybe you can describe it for me if you saw it on a news show.

:)

I gave ol Holy Joe a piece of my mind by calling his office the other day after his attempt to defend Rumsfeld and mislead the public by linking Saddam to Al Qaeda.

Oddly enough, I've not seen him give any interviews or make any other "comments" since.

Maybe enough of us who were fed up with his shilling for Bush and calling his office shut him up.

28. Look hard at McCain ... he is a good conservative Republican BUT
That stills means the man is wrong on most of the issues.

Just because he is not a lying sack of shit does not mean that we need to try and recruit him into the Democratic party.

In fact if we did, the first thing that would happen is that most people here would call for the man's head as a Republican enabler like Lieberbush.

We have two great options sitting in front of us embodied in candidates like Clark and even Edwards (real left-wing DU'ers flame me now).

Either one of those men would be ten times better on the ticket than McCain.

I say this even though I have a slight hint of admiration for a Repuke that refuses to tow the line and rubber stamp every load of crap this administration tries to shit on top of the American people.

Still does not mean that he would want to or even that he should become a Democrat.
