Va. DUers....
What would have to happen for Kerry to carry the old dominion?

Is Warner's election and popularity (inspite of his troubles with the state leg.) a good sign?

Any chance Warner's in the VP race?

1. I'll share my opinions if you'll share yours :-)!
1) Continued poor perf. by Bush on Iraq, the economy, etc. and Kerry needs to spend time and ad money in VA

2) Warner did a LOT of one-on-one and small group glad handing in every part of the state, and I don't know if Kerry can do this.

3) I don't think so. He works hard and should be very proud of the recent victory on the tax issues, but he is not charismatic. Kerry needs someone who will get people excited and proud to vote. And as a DUer pointed out earlier, the rest of the country will be told (by the Repugs) that he's a tax raiser, without being told that the huge tax reform was absolutely necessary in VA.

2. I think we might be surprised in Nov.
But... yes time and ad money would go a long way here.... he could chew Bush up on "Let Every Child Kiss My Behind" Re the SOLs.

Warner could be useful... just because he HAS already Gladhanded many of those Kerry would have to convince.... but, while he is very funny and charming when one meets him, that is not overly obvious at first.... Nonetheless, i like mark warner, wish we could re-elect him and hope to see him go further.

3. Ok it will be closer than people imagine
Not sure if he can win it. Not convinced yet at all. However, the usually very conservative Northern VA has been a very interesting place for me to bumpersticker watch.

Sure, there are a lot of shrub/cheney apocalypse now stickers. But there are a ton of the crossed out W stickers and Kerry bumperstickers -- a hell of a lot more than I usually see outside the district.

I heard more than one young adult 20-something made snide remarks about shrub and all the old rich turds that keep voting Repuke around here.

Along that same line, I tend to notice a lot of the anti-W stickers on young people's vehicles and half of those sport Kerry stickers.

The other half of the Kerry stickers are on the usual college educated older Volvo driving Dem set.

Just gauging attitudes of the people I think it will be closer than people think. I am just not sure that the worm has turned enough for that to be a clincher.

4. Hampton Roads being a military area....
will probably go Bush... unless the sailors are gonna support one of their own over Mr. AWOL.
.... if we're lucky the anger from the Army (that I read about today in the WPost) will spread to the Navy and he gets voted out.

7. No. VA is conservative only when you get to the wealthy or rural counties
such as Loudon, Pr. Williams, west Fairfax. The heavily populated Arlington, Alexandria and east Falls Church (closest to DC) are very Dem--across all income levels.

10. Loudoun County and work in Fairfax
Trust me man it is closer here than you think. Ain't saying it will be a win but it will be closer than many would think from the polls.

5. it breaks my heart
that the most beautiful state in the union (IMHO) goes Republican every election. Sad but true. I dont see it changing this year. Too many of the country folk love BushCo, God only knows why.

8. I agree, it is a beautiful state; I'm afraid more people
here have to experience bad consequences first hand in order to understand the harm--Repubs. have little empathy for others.

9. There is an old adage
about hell freezing over.....
.....I can't think of a better example of zero possibility than Kerry winning here in Virginia.

Living in Hampton Roads and driving around quite a bit, I have seen the sum total of TWO Kerry Bumper stickers and one of them belongs to me.

In short- unless Gen Clark is chosen as a running mate, (and even then that is a mighty big stretch), Bushco will easily carry my home state.

12. Why do you think Clark would make a difference?
His showing in the VA primary wasn't very strong compared to Tennessee or Oklahoma.

I personally think Virginia is a lost cause. If we carry Virginia it would probably mean Bush carried less than 10 states.
