I heart Wolcott...
http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/blogs/wolcott/2008/03/after-watching.html

After watching Barack Obama's searing, soaring, grandiloquent, angel-summoning, devil-dispelling speech about race in America, a speech that had Andrew Sullivan and Chris Matthews emptying the silver drawer for superlatives, I ankled it to the elevator, headed down to the lobby, and walked with my arms outstretched toward the bus stop on the corner to hug every black person for the 104 and do my bit to close the gap of suspicion that divides us. You'd be surprised how many Upper West Siders of all persuasions aren't interested in receiving a hug from a stranger at a bus stop on a chilly day, and how many of them carry canes that they wield with striking force, even after one hugs the sidewalk and achieves the fetal position. Oh well, live and learn.

The rest of the article is especially snappy on the jackassery on both sides (far more one side than the other, naturally, he clearly acknowledges, despite his being a Clinton supporter).

Of course, he's approximately as smart as Obama is, so the meaning and value of what he says is sure to be lost on the general public/DUer. But that doesn't make it any less a great piece.

1. Wolcott is funny and clever. Thanks for reminding me to RSS his blog. I used to
read him all the time but somehow when I got a new PC, I failed to add the link.

6. I think it's more important that he's able to support Clinton without being a fuckwit about it,....
... I suppose that really shouldn't surprise me - just getting dragged down by idiot-ville I suppose.

4. Money quote at the end:
<snip>

"...I detect a scratchy, needy note of desperation beneath the Obama-ites' audacity of hope."

9. Some DU Hillary supporters could stand to read this bit:
...ardent Clintonites do their case and cause no good by citing Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Newsmax, and Fox News as sources to buttress their arguments that Obama is an unelectable dewdrop with a hate diploma from Jeremiah Wright's religious academy.

11. I didn't ignore any criticism...
because there actually wasn't any criticism, just a question as to whether Obama can actually win enough blue-collar Democratic voters in a general election (which is at this point speculative worrying and not criticism, anyway).
