The speech is brilliant, but the right wing media will continue to use their canned talking points
against him.

I thought the speech was terrific, it was uplifting, and anybody who listens to the speech based on its merits will find that it is inspiring.

But it doesn't matter. The right wing media will cherry pick parts of this speech for GOTCHA talking points. Nothing short of burning Reverend Wright on the stake would have been enough for these fuckers.

And the sad thing is that certain swing voters will not even take the time to read this speech and instead they'll listen to the talking points from the likes of Sean Hannity and Bill O'reilly to make their decisions.

I still think Obama has a chance to win in the general, but that possibility is getting lower day by day.

1. Thank you for your injection of cynicism. We need more of that here on DU.

People who listen to Hannity and O'Reilly weren't voting for him anyway

2. The speech was brilliant.
No need to add the rest of your sentence because it's like saying that the sun will rise in the East.

I don't care what the right wing media will or will not do; nothing will ever satisfy them because that's how they earn their salaries.

What I do care about is that I hope the other 70% of the population gets to hear the speech or hear about it, and has a chance to get in on voting for this remarkable man. I think the possibility that he will win the Presidency gets higher every time he speaks.

6. You are missing the point.
A certain group of VITAL swing voters in the general election will be fed canned talking points about this speech up until November.

3. Maybe people might just get tired of the r/w spin, especially if
they heard the speech. The only one I've heard that's continuing to try to push the r/w talking points is Buchanan, and he's a joke.
And if people form opinions based on what someone else says, there's not much hope for them anyway.

4. Big chunks of it will get ample air time on the MSM tonight
With the buildup for the speech, people are paying attention. And with that air time, much of the sentiment will return to normal levels.

5. Of course they will!
Now we have an historic speech to refer to in response to that.

8. NJSecularist. You are correct. The right-wingers will continue their spiel.
And in doing so, they will just make fools of themselves. This speech speaks to the confusion and turmoil in every American. It will be heard. Everyone knows the expression, I have a dream . . . .

Obama's speech has that kind of punch. It is the punch that overpowers resistance -- because of its honesty, simplicity and universality. Obama showed that he understands not just how African-Americans feel about race and their role in American society, but also how whites feel about their race and role in American society.

And as I read the speech, knowing the history of someone close to me who had mixed Austrian/Jewish parentage, who better than Obama to bring real peace to the Middle East. He understands that it is fear and holding on to anger about past injustice that causes divisions along racial and cultural lines. This was a brilliant speech, the speech of a true leader.
