Wetlands loss erodes economy, Kerry says
'We don't give enough help to farmers of the sea'

The loss of Louisiana's coastal wetlands is a national problem that demands swift action, and President Bush isn't moving quickly enough to deliver, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry said at a campaign rally of commercial and recreational fishers Wednesday at Shell Beach in St. Bernard Parish.

"Coastal erosion isn't just swallowing your beaches, it's drowning your economy," said Kerry, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. "Fishermen risk seeing their nets come up empty, sportsmen are watching entire habitats disappear, and people living on the coast fear that their homes or their businesses may literally slip into the ocean."

Kerry said Bush has had four years to prove he is serious about helping Louisiana, and hasn't delivered.

"He has shown his true stripes, and now it's time to have a president who has already proven that he is serious and who is ready to work hand-in-hand with Louisiana to save our coastline, to save our economy and to save our fisheries," Kerry said.

3. Kerry has the best environmental record I've ever seen and...
Bush is trying to compete today with his policies. But, Bush is an environmental disaster and Kerry knows it. Another issue that under fire in a debate, Bush could not hold a candle to Kerry. Bush has no positive issues to run on, only smoke and mirrors.
