Obama's sexism and Keith's Obermann's silence
I have to wonder where Keith's outrage was when Senator Obama HIMSELF (not someone in his campaign)made the cute little remark about how "periodically" Hillary had these little emotional meltdowns...

"I understand that Senator Clinton, periodically {long pause}, um when she's feeling down, launches attacks as a way of trying to boost her appeal".

As a woman, I found that unequivocally sexist and I didn't hear a ten minute
tirade on the evils of sexism in the Obama campaign from our boy Keith....maybe that's just it...our BOY Keith.

4. Are you kidding me?
Bill Maher had a great vignette (a week or so ago) showing how Hillary has gone through about every concievable emotion publically in regards to Obama.

Crying. Angrily denouncing. Proud to be on the same stage. More and more. It was a pretty wild display.

Call it what you want, but the campaign's face has been wildly random.

6. Um.... Hillary is 60 years old ... she post-menopausal..... Sorry.... doesn't work....

To take the word "periodically" and assume that has ANYTHING to do with menstruation in this context is laughable.

....also.... "When she's feeling down".... *MIGHT* be code for PMS - if Hillary still had a menstrual cycle.

You're stretching.....

9. "*MIGHT* be code for PMS - if Hillary still had a menstrual cycle." You just proved the point.
*Clearly* it is a play on the word period and they're not stretching it a bit. That is exactly what he meant to imply and it doesn't matter worth a damn that Clinton is actually beyond that age.

It was no better than a lame, snotty potshot and you know it. Come off it already.

104. I really don't think Obama thought it through this much. "Periodically" has only one message.
Becaause logically, there is nothing else Obama can point to, as further examples of her "regularity" of "feeling down".

Let us not be disingenuous.

120. I saw that clip about 10 times.
He clearly meant she attacks when she's down in the polls. This whole thing is so taken out of context that... I just don't know what to say any more.

And he always pauses... actually, that kinda drives me crazy, and I'm a supporter of his. When he's speaking in a casual setting, or even in an interview, he has lots of pauses that I wish he didn't, but that's his speaking style. This particular pause in question was not a ... pregnant pause.

President Obama is going to be four years of fun, fun, fun.

Have you ever noticed how people accuse others of their own sins? What I've noticed is how he gives himself permission to be snide after a decisive victory.

81. Were you an adult during the decades when there was a serious debate
about whether women's periods (which Obama evoked by the word "periodically") and menopause meant that they couldn't handle the Presidency? Watching Obama make that statement, it appeared that he was using "coded language" to appeal to the older men who would remember that debate -- while going right over the heads of the younger generation.

12. As a woman, I heard no sexism in that statement. What I heard was
that on the occasions that Hillary feels she's losing momentum, she launches attacks to regain that momentum.

I heard it when it was said and before anyone tried to spin it, and never thought it was sexist.

I also never thought the "fairy tale" statement by Bill was racist. Of course, I don't look for and pick apart every single statement that is made in order to create some reason to take offense.

"I thought he was on OUR side"? Uggghhhh....You sound like your new friends over at Fox News. You guys now have something in common, you both worship Hillary and hate Keith. :eyes:

It's obvious that Clinton supporters are now completely through the looking glass. Keith is a good man who has always spoken truth to power, and his brilliant commentary last night explained precisely why the Clinton campaign and its sycophants are destroying the chances of either Dem winning in November.

If you want to know the truth, I don't think Keith has ever completely gotten over her IWR vote. He hates this damned war, and has made no secret of that, and her triangulations about the reasons for that vote has never set well with most of us. But, if she's the nominee, I have every confidence that Keith will be her most fierce defender. Think about it.

now let it go.....sexism is a part of our society - just like racism. Don't reply.

53. pathetic.
Just pathetic. Let's ban the word "periodically" now, huh.

Here's a clue: BOTH women and men tend to feel "down" every now and then (which is another way of saying "periodically").

Just because Senator Clinton was feeling down and launching attacks (and she was and did), doesn't make Obama sexist for pointing it out. The attempt to draw some kind of false equivalency to Ferraro's statement, really reeks of desperation.

55. Ok, I've been sitting here for 15 miuntes seriously considering this. Answer this question:
I came into this thread saying to myself, "ok I'm going to really think this through... recognize my biases as a fair-minded by partial Obama supporter." I've been reading and read reading this statement and its not the first time I've seen it.

I just feel like in order to cry "sexism" you really have to squint and look sideways and then maybe, you could possibly make out something that if you really wanted it to, might look slightly that way.

My question is this:

Compare the two statements:

"I understand that Senator Edwards, periodically, um when he's feeling down, launches attacks as a way of trying to boost his appeal."

And

"I understand that Senator Clinton, periodically, um when she's feeling down, launches attacks as a way of trying to boost her appeal."

I would have made either of these statements. I can't for the life of me see the gender specific component to the statement. So, I have tried to think about this as much as I can, and I reject it. Now, contrast that with the statements of Ferraro. No intensive thought is required. There is no debate among serious people about the inappropriateness of her multiple comments. You don't have to "want" it in order to see it. It's unequivocal and right there. It stands out, in such stark contrast that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand why a strong democratic supporter may decided to use his national platform to criticize a leading democratic candidate for refusing to nip that sort of overt racism in the bud.

If you can't see the sexism, that is proof enough to Hillary supporters that you're sexist. They've never provided any evidence beyond "Well, it's there, and if you can't see it, than you need to educate yourself." It's a cheap, passive-aggressive little dance that they do.

pe·ri·od·ic (pîr'ē-ŏd'ĭk) Pronunciation Key
adj.

1. Having or marked by repeated cycles.
2. Happening or appearing at regular intervals.
3. Recurring or reappearing from time to time; intermittent.
4. Characterized by periodic sentences.

I'm sorry, but I'm just not buying this as coded language. "Jesse Jackson won here in '84 and '88" is coded language. Actually, no it's not - it's blatant, not subtle, in how offensive it is.

I don't deny for a second that there have been sexist attacks on Hillary for years now, and these attacks are repugnant and beneath contempt. But they're not coming from Obama and they're not coming from Olbermann. It's become pretty pathetic, watching Hillary supporters desperately grasp at straws to somehow discredit KO by calling him "sexist." Yeah right. Keith is one of the good guys - in fact, he's an incredibly valuable asset to us, because he's pretty much the sane world's one liaison to the M$M. So stop passing the buck.
