The irony of the monster thing . . .
Every time the cable news talks about it, there's "She's a monster" in quotes across the bottom of the screen. So what does the American public see and will remember after the dust settles? SHE'S A MONSTER. Is this really a benefit to Hillary? Who brought this quote into the unblinking public eye anyway? Why Hillary's camp, of course, and it's backfired on a subliminal level and indicative of poor judgment and desperation. Oh yeah, and hypocrisy.

And for full disclosure, for what it's worth: I voted for Obama in Ohio and I made that decision after watching Hillary mock Obama (and those who would vote for him) for his message of hope. It affected me on a very visceral level because it was as if she was mocking the ideals of what America should and could be again, given the right leaders. For gosh sake, haven't the Republicans and the current administration sullied those ideals enough already? I went from undecided to fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck you in about a heartbeat. And on that bias, my opinion of her has gotten worse watching her try to flame throw her way to a self-serving victory.

1. That's what I'm thinking. It highlights her tactics and puts them under scruticy.

combined with "Clinton comparing Mccain to herself" it is a potential huge PR blunder.

2. Hillary made a big deal of it.
She could have made a joke, shrugged or even said it was wrong. She gunned for Power, now it is "She's a Monster."

I've heard or read Monster more today than in years combined. Hillary shot herself in the foot on this one.

6. She's gone overboard lately. It will backfire I believe. She should back off and go compassionate
again.

3. Well, so be it! She brought this on all by herself.
Maybe she needs to heed the "be careful what you wish for advice" a bit more.

If the ultimate result of all of this is that average Americans believe she's a "monster"--it's just desserts!

There is no way to positively spin this.

10. People will have this in the back of their mind every time she goes uber negative
They will think "bitch may be the new black, but this ones a monster".

Yep -- she should have blown this one off. She didn't do herself any favors there.

22. I didn't say she was.
I am talking about how she chose to handle this and the images/messages that it is sending, or rather, how they are going to be received.

24. Oh I know
I just want to say, and be clear again for DU that Hillary Clinton is not a monster.

I think it's unhelpful to propagate this Hillary Clinton-monster meme.

She handled it wrong. Judgment Call 101 and she flunked this one.

11. She IS a monster...this is going to backfire big time
That label is going to stick. The fact that her campaign made such a big deal of it just points to the truth of the statement that "she will do anything to win...you look at her and just want to go urgh!!! They should have handled this differently. Won the battle , lost the war.

16. I completely agree with your post.
Your journey to a decision is close to mine. I have liked Obama since '04 and when I watched his speech a little bit of me thought, "why couldn't we have a candidate like him?" But, during the Primary season, he didn't shine in the early debates, I thought maybe he could use a bit more experience. But then he got better so quickly, my worries were gone. I was still a bit on the fence, leaning Obama or Edwards. Then SC happened. I watched our former President who should act like a Statesman and a leader make a fool of himself. I was for Obama then. After the 2 weeks of watching the Clinton campaign in Ohio, I was repulsed.

20. Edwards was my first choice and I'm bummed I didn't get the chance to vote on that.
I really liked his pro labor voice and and willingness to take on the fact that for the richest country, we have a horrible problem with poverty. We don't seem to realize we're getting poorer by the day thanks to blind conservatism - the voting against your own best interests kind. I don't think you can have a real democracy without a strong, healthy middle class.

His message was the best populist message. I hope Obama wins and puts him in the cabinet if not VP.

18. Every Republican I Know Calls Her A Monster or Worse....
The ones at work today were calling her the Anti-Christ.

"Lift her hair up along her neck, you'll see 666 tatooed there."

I didn't know that my Republican co-workers posted on DU.

But keep up the good work!

Hillary will win with that bullshit.

23. Not sure what you're trying to say. I gave you full disclosure of where I was coming from
and how it affected my thinking.

I don't think it helps either Obama or Hillary. I just don't think Hillary crying foul gave her the public perception she was expecting. The press gets to to report a scandalous situation involving Obama while enforcing the perception that Hillary's a monster. It's a Rovian wet dream because they both end up looking bad.

So, yeah, keep up the good work!

McCain will win with that bullshit.
