LOOK: Both Clinton and Obama will win the big states period
Don't mix the 2 contest, theres a difference between primary's and general election so what's the argument about Obama not winning the big states? It's not the general yet.

guy's please explain it to me.

2. I've been mulling through similar thoughts myself - for example
Texas, where I live. We are so thrilled to be involved this year, but prospects for Texas to go Democratic in the general election are slim, I am told.
Hillary was so happy about Ohio - saying nobody has become president without winning Ohio. Of course there is always a Republican as well as a Democrat winner in Ohio primaries - so winning a primary in ohio still only gives you a 50% chance of winning the general election.
One argument Hillary seems to be making is that Obama is winning in states which will go to the Repubs in the general - which is back to the Texas thing. Why should Texans have a say in who wins the primary if they will not matter in the general? One answer is party building. If there is no Hope (yes "hope") no one will participate. I think the abandonment of winner-take-all, though painful, will open the door to increased participation.
Enough blabber from such as I.

to carry Ohio in the general election. I haven't found anything yet regarding what happened in the primaries leading to those elections.

Update: Michael DiSalle, governor of Ohio, won the Democratic primary. So Shultz was right, Clinton was wrong (or as you say lying).

6. Thank You!
All I keep hearing is that there is no way NY or California can go Obama, or the Illinois and Maryland will never go Clinton! Seriously, it is crazy.

11. That's a good question. Kerry is making that argument though.
I think his surrogates should be clearing this up. He needs to attack the meaning of just what "experience" Hillary has, and keep working those states.

I'm sure the voters of Pennsylvania may want to hear a bit more about Bill's good buddy, who just happens to be a billionaire steel magnate.

16. there's a difference but:
sure the primaries are not the GE

but....with the one exception of Kennedy in 1960 (whose name was not on the Ohio ballot),
NO presidential candidate--republican or democratic---has WON the GE, without first winning the primary in Ohio

sure, winning the primary in Ohio does not mean the candidate will definitely go on to win the GE

but you can't win the GE without winning the primary in Ohio

so winning the primary in Ohio is Necessary, but not Sufficient, to win the GE

22. Asuming your history is correct I think your logic is not -
There is no law, physical or human-made, which says you have to win the primary in Ohio in order to win the general election. Just because something has never happened does not mean it cannot happen.
Did I misunderstand you?
