While we are waiting can I recommend a little history re Cuyahoga Co. Hunter S. Thompson....
Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72

Chapter "May", Section "Fear and Loathing in Ohio & Nebraska" pp 194-199

Starts with

"Midnight and the polls close in Cleveland---41-39 percent."

Ends with

McGovern on CBS takes a very gentle line on the "very peculiar things that happened out there in Cleveland." No hint of Mank screaming on the phone at Socko.

Elections used to be so much fun.

2. Hunter Came Out and Basically Accused Humphrey of Massive
election fraud and corruption. Precinct reports of unbelievable margins -- 99%-to-1 or more.

I don't necessarily believe his ravings, but he ended up stating that if Humphrey won the nomination, he would vote for Richard Nixon. It was to me the most shocking thing Thompson ever wrote.

3. I don't care who Thompson would have voted for. It was the election margins and the fact that
the precincts in that county waited until all the other votes were in to send in the absolutely hard to swallow vote totals that put Humphrey over the top and no one batted an eye that made me sit up and take notice.

Elections have been dirty in Ohio just about forever. I guess everyone must have seen 2004 coming.
