McCain slammed by Vietnam veterans commercial in Texas
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 03:35 PM by thevoiceofreason
Watching MSNBC today, and the "Vietnam Veterans Against McCain" ran an ad basically equating him with Jane Fonda and calling him out as a communist stooge. Pretty damn ironic.

2. Dangerous
I posted a thread here a week or two ago bout why should McCain be called a hero. My point was that it doesn't take a hero to get shot down or sit in jail. I was jumped on by those who explained that it is smart politics to give that to McCain, and get it out of the way. The Dems do not want to be swiftboaters. I was told that McCain stayed in jail on purpose to support his men. My father was in the service and one of oldest friends was in a Stalag camp in WWII. It is your duty to try to escape.

6. You really need to google Mccain - I think he'd be a useless president.....

But he refused to leave the Hanoi Hilton as it would have been used as a propaganda move by the North Vietnamese. He was very close to dying after being hideously tortured by those scumbags, and he refused the release back to the U.S. because they wouldn't release ALL the other prisoners. If only YOU had his courage.

You really need to read up on this shit if you're going to play here fishy fishy fishy.....

:puke:

8. "It is your duty to try to escape."
Are you ACTUALLY arguing that McCain's refusing release in order to stay with his men is not heroic?

9. I think it's just a few random righties - has it been broadcast on TV?
This is straight out of the michellemalkin.com/freeper mindset. You wonder what they hope to achieve...those people don't like Huckabee much either. Last time I checked in they were muttering about getting romney to un-suspecd his campaign and stage a coup at the Republican party conference.

I had to giggle at the way they blended Vietnamese music into a tejano tune though :-)

17. Not in this case

I don't know how much courage or heroism it takes to bomb human targets from 20,000 feet, if any, but I'm guessing probably not a whole lot.

19. Is John Kerry not a hero either?
Approx. 60,000 Americans died in the conflict. Not all were bombing people from 20,000 feet. Heroism is a human emotion and struggle. It has little to do with the underlying politics. There are many heroes in Iraq today, even though I don't agree with the policy. McCain's heroism, FWIW, didn't stem from his piloting of an aircraft, it emerged while in captivity. His was a human struggle.

21. No, he wasn't

Even Kerry didn't consider himself to be a hero,, going so far as denouncing his medals and throwing them away. Like I said, no one involved with that atrocity should ever be called a hero.

23. Except those who tried to stop it
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 06:14 PM by nebula
those who risked their lives to put an end to it are the true heroes.

That includes anti-war protesters and veterans who eventually came to oppose the war, risked life and limb to put a stop to the violence. That includes the student protestors at Kent State who lost their lives, who died at the hands of National Guard thugs during peaceful protests. These people should never be forgotten. In that sense, John Kerry could be considered a hero for speaking out and testifying against the Vietnam war.

15. Here's some info on them!
http://rightwingnuthouse.com/archive...ire-on-monday/

"The same fellow who mounted the Viet Nam Veterans Against John Kerry now has a group called Viet Nam Veterans Against John McCain. Gerard “Jerry” Kiley is claiming that McCain betrayed the United States as a POW and hints that he is being blackmailed even today by the Vietnamese.
I will not sully this site with details of the charges. I will only say that any legitimate news outlet that attends that press conference or runs with any story connected with these folks should be sued by the McCain campaign.
Kiley also has a campaign committee to raise funds and presumably run commercials against McCain.
What has Kiley’s panties in a twist? Apparently, Senator McCain – despite his treatment at the hands of the enemy – was willing to make peace with his former captors, establish normalized relations with Viet Nam, and most of all, wanted to put the Viet Nam War behind us."

20. Oh no. I'm sorry, but I really disagree with you. I think Obama can win without his supporters
engaging in this sort of attack campaign. Its just really ugly. That was a hideous war and I think its very difficult to be objective about it. Just my opinion, of course.

Why should we play the high road? It will only hurt us in the long run. If it can help us win the election, then I am all for it.
