More Hillary-bashing from Dick Morris in today's NY Post
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 10:06 AM by Apollo11
This idiot seems to have a problem with the fact that the big blue States prefer Hillary.

He ignores the fact that most of the so-called "Heartland" States are also Red States.

Winning a Dem primary in a Red State is NOT the same as actually winning a Red State.

BARACK'S ROAD TO VICTORY

By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN

February 7, 2008 -- IS Hillary Clinton bicoastal? Can she win in America's heartland?

These questions surface in the wake of her victories in New York-New Jersey-Massachusetts and in California-Arizona and her defeats everywhere else except in her former native state of Arkansas and its two next-door neighbors, Tennessee and Oklahoma.

In the first flush of her California victory, it seemed Clinton had a clear path to the nomination. But the picture looks different on closer examination a day later.

While she was winning the dwellings of America's elite, Obama was sweeping everyplace else - Utah, Idaho, Minnesota, Illinois, North Dakota, Kansas and Colorado, many of them states with virtually no black population. And his success in Missouri, Alabama and Georgia show that he continues to dominate Southern states with their large minority populations.

Why is Clinton doing so poorly in the heartland? There, away from the liberal media and establishment bias and from the coastal immigrant and Latino concentrations, she seems at a loss. Aside from her core white-women consituency, these voters are really supporting the memory of Bill's presidency more than the prospect of a Hillary administration.

3. Clinton or Obama will win the "big blue states"
Is there really any doubt about California, New York, etc.? So we start with the assumption that the safe blue states are, well, safe for the Democrats.

Then the question is, which so-called battleground states are within reach of which candidate? It's still early, but from what I can see, Obama has a larger cross-over appeal to independents and disaffected Republicans, which could be more than enough to tip the scales in some of these battleground states.

4. I wouldn't give Dick much credit...
Especially since he joined up with Fixed News and NY Post. They're one big anti-Dem propaganda machine, regardless of candidate, and he fits right in with Insanity and BillO. Just another one of Murdoch's henchmen.

5. I wonder why he keeps having to prove how smart he [thinks] he is all the time
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 09:44 AM by poli speak
I really don't care for his approach even though I have found from time to time he does actually have some good points. I also don't like it when people start "piling on" just to try to make themselves more important than they are. For whatever you think about Hillary Clinton, she doesn't deserve trashing on this level. I won't stand for it when the HRC camp tries to marginalize Obama, and I will also speak out when people I think who should know better, try to womp at HRC. It's unprofessional and immoral. This is our democracy we are talking about, and both candidates have a right to make their case. The electorate, furthermore, deserves a "listen," not trashtalk.

8. Does Dick Morris have a real job?
I mean something for which he's paid that does not involve him trashing the Clintons?

God, I'd hate to be him.

9. Which states are 'heartland' states in your mind?
Morris only hints at what he thinks are heartland states, but you seem very passionate about this concept. So tell me, which states are heartland states?

11. Learn to read
I don't accept the concept of "heartland" states.

I think it is a Bush-Cheney-Rove meme intended to divide America.

It encourages folks in the middle to look down on folks in the East and West.

That's why I wrote it in quote marks in the OP:

most of the so-called "Heartland" States are also Red States

12. Whether his argument is VALID or not, Morris until recently predicted HRC the nominee
I would note in passing that his "heartland" analysis skips over Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Tennessee without explanation of why they don't follow the pattern of his analysis. I point that out in terms of methodology, as an Obama supporter who would very much LIKE to see Obama the nominee.

In general, I think Morris' general sense that Obama is in a strong position to at least win the MOST pledged delegates by June is spot on, even if his explanation of why seems a little faulty.

17. Why does anyone care what he says?
I mean really, is he even relevant anymore?" Was he ever relevant to begin with? His claim(s) to fame seems to be that he picked up a prostitute and turned against the Clintons. I believe that he wanted Hillary, she turned him down (showing some class) and he got bitter.
