Breaking News!!!! Kerry ahead of Bush 5% in Oregon!!!!
http://www.oregonlive.com/news/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/front_page/1078664357255731.xml

Most of the article is about gay marriage, but, look at the end:

"The poll also showed Kerry has a narrow lead in Oregon over Bush, while independent Ralph Nader maintains a steady level of support. Kerry is backed by 45 percent, compared with 40 percent for the Republican president and 5 percent for Nader. "

Kerry leads Bush 5%!!!

9. it isn't good enough, but gore only won it by less than 1%
5% puts us in a much better position.

16. I would have expected
better, but then again its barely started. All these polls showing nader gaining more support than 2000 leave me VERY skeptical.

2. Does Oregon have a lot of gays?
Gays will vote 90% Democratic this year (it was 71% last time).

10. 1 million out of 4 million gays voted for Bush in 2000
Rove is trying to get a few million evangelical idiots to come out who didn't in 2000. Well maybe the gay marriage amendment will bring out some, but it no doubt alienated almost all of his 1 million 2000 supporters.

5. Expect the 5% for Nader to drop...
once Kerry is campaigning more aggresively.

I sure hope we keep the left coast in tact. We sure need to. Gore barely win OR.

6. Nader got 5% in OR last time
hence Gore's narrow victory.

No way in hell * wins Oregon this year. It has the highest unemployment rate in the country.

I think we'll have the left coast wrapped up this year.

11. we HAVE to keep Nader off the ballot in battleground states
Most of that 5% would no doubt go for Kerry if Nader isn't on the ballot.

12. ???
First, how do you propose keeping Nader off the ballot in battleground states?

Secondly, I think there are a lot of people who would never vote for Kerry. Not in a million years. At least with Nader, there are Republicans who have an option besides the Boston Brahmin Kennedy wannabe multimillionaire who they just can't stand. So, I don't think that, whatever your plan is, that it would be democratic or wise.

Why not convince Kerry to be more representative of the American people and have a good strategy in order to actually earn whatever he can of what he thinks "his" part of the Nader vote is?

13. Democrats should challenge every single
suspect signature on petitions. Although you don't like that....that is what Democrats should do. I don't know how it is in Oregon, but an independent in many states can not have anyone sign the petitions that voted in the Democratic or Republican primary.

14. Not a good way to win...
I think there are only a few states like that.

What I am saying, is that there is the potential to cause great resentment. There is the potential to be antagonistic towards the democratic process. Such suggestions only further alienate disgrunteled democrats AND potential republicans - and independents will be especially turned off by this sort of attitude.

I like to think of myself as a predominately democratic voter, but if I saw this sort of thing occuring I would most definitely wonder if I ever wanted to vote democrat again! It would make me feel that the democratic party hated democracy. What a waste of time and resources, when the party could be trying to register and appeal to voters.

15. Since I posted the reply to you I did some
googling and I finally found the requirements for each state.

Oregon...the candidate has to get signatures from 15,306 people by 8-24.
The site doesn't say if there is the rule about whether or not they voted in the Rep or Dem primary, but I know from past readings that it is a requirement in many states.
