My conservative brother
Is rooting for Obama and likes him better than any of the candidates on either side! I was a little shocked, to say the least. I have to admit, he's a very moderate conservative, but still....he did not vote for Kerry last time. He didn't vote at all. That he is actually planning to register and vote is something. That he is planning to vote for a Democrat is amazing. :bounce:

Just wanted to share.

1. My tax cut addicted dad voted for Kerry in 2004
and that was the first Democrat since Adlai Stevenson in the 50s. When he announced it, I was floored. We'd kept the peace for too many years by agreeing to disagree on politics, so I didn't grill him about the change of heart. He did mention being disgusted by the Swift Boat smear ads.

I know how you feel. My dad died two years ago and I miss him every day. I'm just glad he came over to the rational side in the last election and I don't give a hoot what his reason was.

2. that reminds me
i need to give my "conservative" - actually i mean right wing republican, conservative does not seem to fit anymore - brother a call. he's had issues with his heart. unfortunately unless he volunteers something as earthshaking as what your brother shared with you, i'll have to imagine if and for whom he will vote. the last time we talked politics he told me 911 was a good reason for the US to invade Iraq. that was a couple years ago now, and we haven't broached the subject since.

good on your bro for seeing the light.

3. Guess the media and party "inspires" us to vote sometimes
Edited on Sat Feb-02-08 04:42 PM by mac2
They are mostly lies. When are "We the people" going to elect our own representatives and voices?

Make no mistake all of them are answerable to the few elite. They are figure heads paid off in the end.

4. I know this is heresy around here, but even a lot of conservatives are....
.....tired of the infighting between the two partys.

Sorry, it had to be said.

The board may now carry on with their tin foil conspiracy theories about the reasons some Republicans are wanting to vote for Obama.

5. I think that may be part of it.
He knows how bad the Repubs have screwed up and seems to want to get past all it all and get things back to "normal". Believe me, my brother-in-law is not involved in any right-wing conspiracy. He wants Obama to win the primary so he can vote for him in the general. He used to have a good opinion of McCain, which is why I was so surprised. But McCain's support for the war is where he lost my brother-in-law.
