1. Yes, Harry was the last no BS president!
Maybe Jimmy Carter was one of the sincerest, but had lousy luck while in office.

5. Actually, the Kennedy-Corman bill was better.
But all we got from that go-round was legislation allowing HMOs nationally. Whoopee!

3. I do not think so
I think that there will be so much corruption to hack out with a dull machete and so many bridges figurative and literal to re-build that the expedient thing will be done.

And doing the right thing would involve a new set of priorities regarding our military and intel budgets. You tell me, does either Obama or Hillary have the grit to do that?

The expedient thing will be to allow HMOs and pharma to promise to be good from now on, under federally mandated health insurance. But do not expect the system to be a government/private org like the postal service is private.

Expect it to be private like Blackwater is private.
For profit, and immune from prosecution or suit.

4. But we didn't get universal coverage. Meanwhile, Britain got its Health Service.
Health reform was debated in Johnson's Great Society years -- at least we got Medicare and Medicaid.

It was debated again under Nixon -- and we got ... HMOs!

And, of course, it was debated under Clinton -- and we got HRC.

Let's see if we can make any progress under an Obama presidency -- don't look for anything should any of the others still in the race in either party become prez.

After 60 years, the time certainly should have ccme.

6. As opposed to trying and failing once, then passing it off to the next administration
like the Clinton's did?

7. Because when a Democratic Congress failed to accomplish this feat.
Surely President Clinton would have had an easier time when the GOP ran Congress...
