Dick Durbin for VP, anyone?
Rock-solid, liberal credentials, an AWESOME speaker, as bright as they come and absolutely FEARLESS in attacking Republicans, well-known and well-liked across the Midwest. His seat is not up this year, so if we lost, we'd still have him in the Senate; if we won, we'd have a Democratic governor filling the vacancy.

Your thoughts?

2. Durbin is AWESOME, but IL will go Dem regardless..
I'd rather see someone in the VP spot who has a lot of dem. support in a swing state.

5. A valid point.
IL is in the 'ham sandwich' category of blue states. :P

3. I don't think a two Senator ticket
is a good thing. If we want a well liked person in the Midwest. Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack is better

8. I could live with that....
The two-senator caution is valid--watch the repukes start screaming about "Washington Insiders", although I doubt that that dog would hunt. Durbin's a good guy with his heart/mind/voice in the right places--a good choice among many.

You know, this is turning out to be a hell of a good nominating process--good primary candidates, pretty darn good debating on the issues, and now some very careful examination of potential veeps.

Damn--it's refreshing to see some grown-ups again! Suck on that one, Chimpy, ya juvenile jerkoff!

TOAST to all the primary runners--thanks for a fair, clean run!

:toast:

15. Not me!
I have concerns about Edwards only because of the "2 Senators" Republican slam mentioned above.

Clark, OTOH, presents a strong VP candidate who has Southern ties and outsider status. He'd positively influence Indies and moderate Republicans, too. Plus, he could step in easily if, God forbid, something happens to Kerry.

He'd be a great choice, IMHO.

13. Durbin would be one hell of a floor leader in the Senate.
He's got a bigger set on his worst day than Tom Daschle ever had on his best day...

I like Obama and Hynes both, but can only vote for one. I may not decide until I actually step in to cast my vote...

22. Padraig, it would not piss me off if --
-- Durbin were selected. I like the man a lot.

I hear the 2-Senator caution, but I like exceptions, and Durbin can really connect with audiences -- you're right there, too.

I'm next door in Indiana and WE like Durbin. Some of us like him better than Evan Bayh. We like Evan personally but politically we wish he would lead more torch-and-pitchfork crowds against the BFEE.

I'm gung-ho for the Democratic ticket and if Durbin is on it, I'm very cool with that.

23. Durbin would take it to Bush/Cheney
Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 07:24 PM by Padraig18
They've tried to smear him personally, as a member of the Intelligence Committee, and he would just LOVE to settle that score on a national stage in a prime-time, VP debate.

24. Yes -- it would be a very illuminating evening for --
-- Dick Cheney.

And for voters, who might begin to see that they've been getting a raw deal with Bush & Co.

You're winning me over with this Durbin idea, Padraig.

25. Durbin is GOOD!
My only reservation is that I would prefer him to be Majority Leader when we take back the Senate.
